Captain America is coming to the big screen! But don’t hold your breath waiting for it — the film won’t be out until 2009.
IGN’s Film Force reports that screenwriter David Self, who adapted Road to Perdition for the silver screen, is working on the script. Self has also worked on Marvel’s movie adaptations of Sub-Mariner and Deathlok.
Marvel producer Avi Arad recently said, “Without giving too much away, obviously there’ll be a little bit of the origin and then we come into our real world. What makes Captain America such a compelling character is that it allows you to judge history so you see where he came from and you see what he stood for.”
There haven’t been many details about the project, but we’re rooting for an appearance by side-kick Bucky.
Until 2009, you can check out the Nazi-bashing super patriot in the direct-to-DVD movie Ultimate Avengers, which is available this week.
