Bytes: Takei Gets Stern, Charmed Cancelled
- MOVIES: Thomas Jane has been cast in the supernatural thriller EVILSEEK, about a cop who commits suicide, only to return possessed by the devil. Production is expected to begin later this year’. A live-action adaptation of the anime NEON GENESIS EVANGELION seems nearer to becoming a reality. At the recent New York Comic-Con, ADV Films said a rough draft of the script has been okayed and the company is planning to hire an A-list director’. Todd McFarlane has revealed a few details of his TORSO movie project. Screenwriter Ethan Kruger and director David Fincher have been hired to work on the film, which follows Elliot Ness as he hunts down a serial killer’. - TV: CHARMED is getting the axe. The popular series, starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs, will end in May after eight seasons. ALIAS returns to TV on April 19 with a two-hour episode that will include the birth of Sydney’s (Jennifer Garner) baby as well as Michael Vaughn’s (Michael Vartan) return’. Diminutive actor Peter Dinklage has been cast as a scientist in ULTRA, a CBS superhero pilot based on the comic of the same name. The series stars Lena Headey as a single superhero in the city’. Justin Hartley has replaced William Toale as the star of the CW’s AQUAMAN TV pilot. Also joining the cast are Ving (what happened to this guy’s career?) Rhames and former Miss Universe Denise Quinones.
- COMICS: SUPERGIRL is flying off the shelves. SUPERGIRL #5, the latest issue of the series, sold out in just one day. DC has sent the special issue, written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund, back to the press for another printing’. Vertigo will publish writer Jonathan Ames’ first original graphic novel, THE ALCOHOLIC, in the fall of 2007′. Comic book illustrator Jim Lee is working on a multiplayer online role-playing game based on the DC Comics universe.
- CELEBRITIES: You might be hearing more George Takei on Howard Stern’s Sirius radio show. After a sucessful run as the announcer on the show’s first week, Takei says he’s now in discussions to make regular appearances’.
