I didn't think it was awful or stupid, just lacking something. The story was ok, the mutant fighting mutant action was cool, Magneto was awesome as always, the Phoenix story was severly dumbed down, but I enjoyed it more than any Star Wars prequel.

I can't even describe how stupid I thought this movie was. The only good moments (both of them) were taken directly from Joss Wheadon's arc. Other than that, I thought the cartoon was better.

I did like the movie, however, they tried so hard to ground everything in realism (no spandex, etc...) that when I saw Magneto walking through a suburban neighborhood with his helmet & cape, I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. It just looked so stupid! Same w/ Storm's cape. Looked like a piece of tin foil.

Speaking of Magneto: I love Ian McKellen, usually. I thought he was simply AWFUL in this movie. WAY over the top. And he used this... vibrato in his voice. Every time he said anything he sounded like Ethel Merman. Bad bad bad. And, what's with Rogue being such a wimp? She's supposed to be this southern "look but don't touch" sex-pot, not a mouse!! I know I'm being very negative. I enjoyed (for the most part) watching the movie, but I felt pretty disappointed when it was over. What I would LOVE to see is an entirely new take on the X-Men. A different movie with a different cast. Other than Prof X, I think these movies were just horribly cast. I love all of the actors... just not as X-Men. (errrr... a handsome 6'1" Wolverine?!)
