Hugo Weaving To Voice Megatron!

Dave3   |    |

The Many Faces of MegatronHugo Weaving will voice Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, in the live-action Transformers movie.

The news of Weaving’s casting came from the encrypted SectorSeven.org Web site (code cracked and news confirmed by the dudes over at AICN). If you wanna check it out for yourself, click the above link and type in “NBETWO“. When the page loads, click on the scorpion at the bottom to view a pop-up email from March 23 that reads:

Operation: Hungry Dragon 2 continues. As of today, Agent H. Weaving has officially convinced S.S., M.B., R.D, and A.K. to assign him to oversee the Megaman issue. The recording will commence immediately.

All the years of investment into Agent Weaving’s public persona have finally paid off. He will monitor the campaign from the inside and report on its progress free from suspicion.

By this summer, the population will think N.B.E.S are nothing more then figments of someone’s overactive imagination.

Our power lies in our secrecy.

How’s that for some crazy-ass, covert communications? Someone loves their job, huh!

Initial reports had famed voice-over actor Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron in the original cartoon series as well as in the animated movie, returning to the role, and considering that Peter Cullen is reprising his role as Optimus Prime, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility. I would have loved to have them both back, but it seems like that just wasn’t in the cards.

Weaving is best known for his role as Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy as well the elf Elrond in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also starred as the lead in 2006’s V For Vendetta. Hugo’s voice is a great alternative choice for Megatron, although I’m afraid I’ll spend half the movie waiting for Megatron to roar ‘Missster Aaaanderson!’

The Michael Bay-directed Transformers, which stars Shia LaBeouf and Jon Voight, opens in theaters this July 4. And since Bay is a master at filming two things (neither of which is Drama) — insane combat action and cars doing shit they never could in real life — I expect this film will take both to a whole ‘nother level.

We’ve been talking about Hugo Weaving as Megatron over at Highbrid Nation and to be honest with you I’m having a little trouble wrapping my head around it. I would have loved to have the original voice from the cartoon. Guess I’m just too old school.
