David Goyer on Arrow, Dragons, Scanners, Dent

The Geeks of Doom   |    |

Where in the world is David Goyer?

The writer/director/producer is all over the news this week discussing his upcoming projects.

Goyer’s ‘Green Arrow’ Gets ‘Super Max’
In February, David Goyer announced that he would not be writing and directing The Flash movie for Warner Brothers. Now, he revealed to Wizard that he sold the studio on Super Max, which would revolve around the Green Arrow. The DC superhero, wrongly accused and convicted, is stripped of his costume and secret identity, and is serving a life sentence in a maximum security prison populated with B- and C-grade villains from the DC universe. The superhero would then have to team up with some unlikely allies in order to escape imprisonment and clear his name. Goyer is attached to produce the project.

UPDATE 4/19/07: Goyer hires 22-year-old novice Justin Marks to write Super Max. [Link]

Goyer to Co-Produce ‘Dragons’
Goyer told Sci Fi Wire that he will co-produce Here, There Be Dragons, the big-screen adaptation of the James A. Owen fantasy novel. The book — based on the real and fantasy lives of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Charles Williams — is the first volume in Owen’s The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica franchise. Goyer said that Owen is currently writing his own adaptation of the tale, hinting that he might direct the ensuing film if the timing works out.

Goyer Updates ‘Scanners’
Goyer told Sci Fi Wire that he’s writing the script for an updated version of David Cronenberg’s 1981 SF-horror film Scanners that expands on the original and places it in the context of current events. The film will be directed by Saw II helmer Darren Lynn Bousman for Dimension Films and production is scheduled to start in early 2008.

Goyer on ‘Dark Knight’ Two-Face
Goyer, who is currently working on the story for Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, told Sci Fi Wire that the character Harvey Dent will appear in the film, but not necessarily his villainous alter ego, Two-Face, as has been reported. Aaron Eckhart will play Dent in the sequel, which opens July 18, 2008.
