Gina Holden will play the role of Dale Arden in the SciFi Channel’s original series Flash Gordon, according to SciFi.com.

Holden, who appeared in Final Destination 3 as well as the upcoming Alien vs. Predator 2, will play the love interest to the title character, played by former Smallville actor Eric Johnson.

The 22-episode SciFi series, which will be a contemporary retelling of the 1934 comic strip created by Alex Raymond, began shooting this week in Vancouver, Canada, and will debut in August.

Others in the cast include Jody Racicot (Night at the Museum) as Dr. Hans Zarkov and John Ralston (Earthstorm) as the evil ruler Ming the Merciless, as well as Karen Cliché (Baylin), Giles Panton (Joe), Panou (Nick), Jonathan Walker (Rankol), Jill Teed (Norah), Carmen Moore (Jolie) and Anna van Hoft (Aura).
