‘Dark Knight’ Joker, Harvey Dent Campaign

Empress Eve   |    |

Harvey Dent Election AdA few days ago, Warner Bros. opened a site to promote their Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight. The site I Believe in Harvey Dent consists soley of an election poster advertising Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart) for District Attorney.

Soon after, another site was discovered — I Believe in Harvey Dent Too — which appears to have been hacked by The Joker (Heath Ledger) which features a defaced “I Believe in Harvey Dent” poster.

Visitors to The Joker’s site who entered their email address received a link with X and Y coordinates emailed to them that once plugged in would reveal one pixel from an image underneath. The more users input the coordinates, the more pixals of the image beneath the campaign poster were uncovered.

The full image was finally revealed today to be Ledger in full Joker face makeup. See image here after the jump.

It was a fun little game to play, though I can’t say I’m all that thrilled with the final image. I don’t see anything amazing about it, and it’s done nothing to make me think that Ledger will look great in this role (nevermind, that I can’t see how good he’ll be acting the part). While nowadays, people tend to play down the first Tim Burton Batman, there’s no denying that at the time, audiences loved it. And when Jack Nicholson first appeared in full Joker makeup, everyone was awed.

Is anyone awed by Ledger’s Joker?

UPDATED 5/21/07: See comments section for updated look at the I Believe in Harvey Dent Too site and its hidden message.

I am more awed that Aaron Eckhart, one of the best actors working today, has a role in the film!

  2. Groovespook Says:

It must be difficult to try to work in such a comedic villian into what will surely be a more noir film than any previous iterations of the Batman conglomerate, Pre Batman Begins!

I think it is very apt.

    Very apt.

as far as the make up goes.. its kinda a meh look for right now. though i will save final judgements till i see how he actually acts as the joker.

  4. Mo3pheus Says:

He should have a big freakin mouf with crazy teeth that freaks you out when you see it. This is more like a “pity me, I’m evil” kind of face.

What happened to Guy Pearce as the Joker? A mad maniacal villan he would be.

  5. Loki19l Says:

I tried to view the hacked version of the site, but it gave me “Page Not Found” in red letters. So then I highlighted everything on the page and in black letters they have “ha ha ha ha ha ha ha”, etc. all the way down the page. I never got to see the actual hacked version of the campaign pic though.

Yeah, I noticed that today too. It’s all part of the movie marketing campaign, so I guess we can expect lots more to come.

Here’s a screenshot of the site today:

Between all the HA’s are letters that when run together spell out “See You In December.”

  7. Manic_Rage Says:

    The Joker.

Remember Cillian Murphy as ‘Scarecrow’? The scene in the cell when he uses the mask against the mob boss…a Visually stunning image and effect that stuck wih me.

So now, the Joker. Heath Ledger [an acting chameleon perhaps] portraying a mentally warped tortured being with a ‘chelsea smile’ for a grin. I think this will be good.

    Why?

Because the Joker mocks everything. He could kill your mother and find it funny. HE COULD KILL YOUR MOTHER AND FIND IT FUNNY.

We are talking about a twisted serial killer with no apathy but a sense of humour………………….hA ha HA HA Ha ha ahahah hahha ha ha ha ha………

    Manic_Rage.

[N.B. A 'Chelsea Smile' is a technique employed by the gansters in 1960s era london...they took a machete to the corners of your mouth as torture and sliced through your cheeks to your ears. Funny Now?]

  8. disco Says:

All I know is….I can’t fucking wait. “I believe in Harvey Dent” is a direct reference to Jeph Loeb’s The Long Halloween, which is one of the best Batman books ever.
