USA Today has a first look at Mach 5, the race car from Speed Racer, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1960s animated series from directors Larry and Andy Wachowski.
According to the article, the design of the car was based on the one from the original cartoon, but was given a more modern look.
Producer Joel Silver said that the film will be “very family-friendly … And it will have great effects like The Matrix, just with the car.” But most of the Mach 5’s effects will be computer-generated and the car will be placed on a crane for live shots.
Speed Racer is scheduled to hit theaters on May 9, 2008.
