‘The Invasion’ Teaser Trailer

Empress Eve   |    |

The InvasionThe teaser trailer for The Invasion, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, is now online. You can view it here after the jump.

The Invasion was originally intended to be another remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (there’s been three other movies made so far, based on 1955 scifi novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney.) But Warner Bros. decided that their script, by Dave Kajganich, was original enough to NOT be considered a remake or a re-imagining.

I don’t know about that. According to the official synopsis and from what I can tell from the teaser trailer (both of which are after the jump), there’s still some striking similiarities:

– The lead character is in the health profession.
– Earth is subject to an alien epidemic.
– Aliens invade the humans while they sleep.
– The infected people plot to infect more people.
– There’s no way to tell who the infected humans are except for their lack of emotion.
– The last scene in the trailer shows Kidman’s character with what looks like her duplicate (in the original, the aliens infect the humans, kill them, then become their identical “replacement.”)

The major differences so far are there’s no mention of alien “pods” and Kidman’s character is given a son, who could somehow be involved in stopping the alien invasion. I’m guessing this means The Invasion will end on a happy note (something that was an issue with the other remakes).

The Invasion opens in theaters on August 17, 2007.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: The Invasion is a nightmarish journey into a world where the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. The mysterious crash of the space shuttle leads to the terrifying discovery that there is something alien within the wreckage. Those who come in contact with it are changing in ominous and inexplicable ways. Soon, Washington, D.C. psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) and her colleague Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) learn the shocking truth about the growing extraterrestrial epidemic: it attacks its victims while they sleep, leaving them physically unchanged but strangely unfeeling and inhuman. As the infection spreads, more and more people are altered and it becomes impossible to know who can be trusted. Now Carol’s only hope is to stay awake long enough to find her young son, who may hold the key to stopping the devastating invasion.

Some other facts about the film: According to this story, Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver weren’t satisfied with a rough cut of the film by director Oliver Hirschbiegel so they ordered reshoots. Hirschbiegel was unavailable for the task, so James Mcteigue (V For Vendetta) was brought in, along with The Wachowski Brothers (Matrix trilogy) who reportedly rewrote over 2/3 of the film. It was during one of these reshoots that star Nicole Kidman was injured.
