The shocking twists are probably the only reason the movies make half the money they make, there's no way there' going to risk that to appease film critics, who generally don't give horror movies good reviews regardless. Oh, and there's two sequels still contracted, part V is already being produced, so until they stop making money, I wouldn't expect the series to go away anytime soon.
