First I loved it. Great casting, my main gripe is I wanted more! I hope they make the other 2.

I first noticed this book series when I was working at a B-Dalton (think Barnes & Noble Junior) in a mall four years ago. I couldn't find a single person to give me any sort of review on them, so I never picked them up...

Damn do I regret that now. I'm still trying to convince myself that if I buy the book now, I'll be able to finish it BEFORE the movie has left theaters. This just seems like the sort of story where I'd want to experience the book first.

We'll see what happens...

I too thought the pacing was off, but on a whole, I really enjoyed the movie. It lived up to its "epic fantasy" claim and it kept me interested throughout. And there wasn't one character that annoyed me, which is huge considering how many characters they packed into this two hour movie. While Daniel Craig has very little screen time, the stole the scenes he was in. The only problem with him is that is a little too likable for Lord Asriel.

After two theater viewings, I'm definitely looking forward to owning the DVD when it comes out, and if there's an extended version with commentary, that would be even better.

This is much better than I thought it would be. It has some problems, but it is not as bad as many people have suggested. The visuals and the acting are very good. I wished it had been longer, but I can't say it was a bad movie. Thank you for writing a real review of this film.
