NT2 was not a bad film for those who did not catch NT1.

But for those who did watched NT1, then they are not missing anything, well, only 1% of the movie is different from the 1st, having a bad villian!

Midway thru the movie, I kind of realized that the whole script was a rehash of the 1st one and that none of the characters has changed nor shows any maturity.

1) Same old doubts on Nic's intuition - CHECK
2) Same old clues but different location - CHECK
3) Same old acting w/o character developments - CHECK
4) Same old lines - CHECK

I can go on but I guess you guys got the point by now.

Totally a waste of money, time and talent. Next in line for Nic's next movie NEXT 2 (pun intended)

Rating - 1/5 ( 1 just because I am in a happy place right now )

Well, the 3.5 rating is what I thought of it. It's not taking in count whether or not others will like it.

I've never been someone who saw the first National Treasure movie and hated it. Yes, the plot was rather particularly outrageous... but you don't go to a Jerry Bruckheimer film and expect small, grounded stories. I particularly liked the tight repartee between the characters... that really drove a lot of the movie for me. I might not always be ready to accept everything that was happening in the film, but the writing and acting always seemed to ring true.

I thought The Wibberlies really missed the mark with the dialog writing in this movie. Wooden, wooden lines in spots. The actors tried to salvage what they could, but I thought it lacked the spark of the first film.

Aside from that, Helen Mirren was under-utilized, as was Ed Harris.

Good review, Tony D! Though does a review that ends with "So, do I recommend it? Yes and no." really merit 3.5 out of 4 stars? Just a thought.

HERE'S A NAYSAYER!

The entire conceit behind the film is flawed. If there's a treasure that no one wants found, who made these elaborate clues telling any nimrod with the intelligence of a Hollywood sceenwriter exactly where it was? And fortunes DECREASE over time, they don't INCREASE. When you find a quarter on the sidewalk, you don't add it to the horde of quarters you locked away beneath Boston. You use it to buy a Coke or a newspaper.

But I'm not angry about it and unlike some, I DO understand why people like it. It's what a decade and a half without Indiana Jones does to people.

But good review anyway, though.

Nice review, Tony. I'm like you. I totally liked the first movie and I recall people telling me it sucked, asking how I could like it. Then it did well at the box office and where are all the naysayers? Hmm... they don't remember saying they didn't like it. Very convenient. As far as plot goes, I figured the sequel would just be more of the same and I'm totally fine with that.
