The other day, we posted what appeared to be the cover art for the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
trade paperback comic book adaptation from Dark Horse publishers.
Turns out that this image that came along with the Dark Horse online press release was NOT the cover, but is actually a “solicitation only” image that Lucasfilm provided to Dark Horse for now, according to DK Associate Editor Jeremy Barlow, who posted the update on the DK Forums.
Barlow also wrote that the real cover(s) will be original painted works by Indy and Star Wars artist Hugh Fleming.
The solicitation artwork, which I happen to think is awesome, is by Steve Anderson, who’s posted on his official site’s Indiana Jones gallery two other pieces of art, as well as a notice that “Ten new classic illustrations and seven new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull illustrations coming soon.”

Ha, that looks the teen-age Anakin Skywalker holding a lightsabre in the foreground. Lucasfilms indeed.
