‘Narnia’ Film Franchise Not Dead? Producer Talks ‘Silver Chair’

Empress Eve   |    |

NarniaOnly a few days ago at NYCC, Prince Caspian producer Mark Johnson said that there were no plans to continue the Chronicles of Narnia film franchise after the third movie, Voyage of the Dawn Treader (see NYCC: ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ Panel).

MTV reports today that Johnson told them that he’s already thinking about the fourth film, The Silver Chair.

Johnson said “there is a list” of dream directors for Silver Chair and that he already has “an eye on who might direct.” The producer also said that he thinks the director “will be somebody new entirely” and “totally unexpected.”

Johnson also said that he envisions a different visionary director brought on with each Narnia installment to reinvigorate the franchise (like Alfonso Cuaron did with the third Harry Potter movie).

Interestingly, Johnson admitted that some of the future adaptations might prove difficult because of the various themes presented in them like sexism, religion, and racism.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say a couple of them I don’t know how to film,” Johnson told MTV.

Obviously, this plan to film all seven C.S. Lewis books might change again, since Johnson had previously said that it all depends how well Caspian and Dawn Treader do at the box office. Prince Caspian opens in theaters May 16, 2008 with Dawn Treader scheduled for May 7, 2010.
