Have you heard about George Lucas being proactive in getting the word out about youth voter registration? Lucas, as well as many other celebrities are featured in a new VoteForIt! 08' PSA. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpAOYskH1s8

It's actually a pretty good, enjoyable movie. Turned up to 11, of course.

White Americans will watch another "Indiana Jones" film tomorrow which follows the exploits of a celebrated grave-robber and destroyer of indigenous cultures. These films consistency portray people of colour in an insensitive fashion and are filled with historical inaccuracies. The white man stole knowledge from Africa and destroyed the great library at Alexandria to hide his crimes. Now he makes films celebrating this kind of thievery.

What exactly qualifies Lucas to be part of any dream team? Maybe the money from toys and cereal? What has he been a part of that couldn't have been much better? And Spielberg, he is still making movies like it's the 1980s. I will say that after watching the old Indiana Jones movies again that I expect the new movie to be about on par with them. The effects weren't too good and some of the dialog was awkward back then too.

I am glad I read your review before seeing. You said it perfectly.

I hate to say it, but the film seemed rushed and sloppy at times.
It's fun, but that's about it. It's good, not great.

Having high hopes for a movie almost always leads to some, even if it is just mild, disappointment. MetaCritic has this one around 70 still despite the common talk that it is getting completely trashed by critics now, so I am not expecting to love it or hate it at this point.

I always liked the series, but like Star Wars, I never got so into it that I saw the legendary status. Classics for sure, but still flawed. So if Crystal Skull is flawed, odds are I will still like it as much as the others, even though LaBeouf has worn out his welcome with me and Lucas is out of touch with his fans.

it seems like the recipe of a good Indiana Jones film would be 1 part Nazis and 1 part Biblical Artifact... the Soviet army does a pretty good job of replacing the Nazis, but the other ingredient...

This is a very good review. I too have been trying to keep my expectations in check. I think we've all been burned by that before. With the originals shaping many of our movie-going lives earlier on, and the length of time since The Last Crusade, it's almost a foregone conclusion that it will let down on some level.

Excellent review. I would imagine this is how I am going to feel about this film as well when I see it later.
I have been trying to keep my expectations low ever since Lucas got rid of Frank Darabont's script.

@Lap
When I wrote this review last night, I could only think about my own disappointment. But when I got up this morning, I realized that while this franchise might not be aimed at me anymore, it is a great movie for the next generation. I'm taking my niece and nephews to see it this weekend, and I'm sure they will love it. They won't take issue the things I did (i.e., ageism) and it will surely be a fun experience for them, as Temple of Doom was for me as a child (which, at the time, my Dad who liked Raiders could NOT understand how I could watch Doom so many times). Like Tenacious D says, it's time to pass the torch.

The first comment made me grin so much I forgot what I was going to comment-

It sounds like there's a lot of fun throughout this, and I'm still excited to re-introduce my kids to the franchise on the big screen with little Louis Stevens as the sidekick. I have to admit, I'm totally excited to see Karen Allen as her old kickass character AND a mom.

Well, this must be the first review I've read that didn't completely rip the movie apart. I'm still not sure whether it's worth watching in the cinema or whether I'll rent it at some point.

Episode 1 was such a desaster that I'm very, very, very scared of this one.

Going into any movie expecting it to be your favourite movie ever, invariably ends in failure.

Except Serenity.

It was my favourite. :)
