Oh for fuck's sake! Anyone who doesn't realize it's just a TV show and therefore, not to be taken THAT seriously, is a bonafide idiot. Congratulations idiot. You've taken the show more seriously than any fan I've ever seen.

Oh and by the way, do your research on the show before you spew your stupidity all over the place.

Yeah. the characters, the plot lines and dialogue-- all unbelievable. infact, one might say, fictitious. and that is exactly what the show is, entertainment. a get-away. the average woman, whether or not she is a new yorker, knows how unrealistic half of the shit on SATC is but nonetheless it is entertaining. none of my girlfriends watch the show for enlightenment or tips on how to become a better feminist. for god's sake, it was produced by HBO! what else did you expect?? of course it is going to be salacious and predictable all at once.

Empress Eve, i was following you...nodding my head in agreement as i read until about the 2nd or 3rd paragraph when you just unleashed this intense hatred. you keep on criticizing how ugly Carrie's outfits were and so forth and i think you are under the impression that that is a legit critique of the content of the show when it is just you overdosing on something that resembles bitterness. The crux of your argument being they are neither with the punk or goth crowd of west village so their outlandish outfits can't fit in anywhere in New York. perhaps you and I know two very different NYC. You repeatedly call the characters slutty. one of my favorite parts of the show was the extremely liberating sexuality. You have very ugly assumptions of what a woman should be like which resound with very Victorian-esque echoes. You seem to be a well read and educated woman, to start with I hope you pick up an Erica Jong book and broaden your mind.

I basically have two issues with the show. One is how the span of 10 years it has been promoted as something revolutionary. outside of the candid sexuality, the show is pretty much a hackneyed repetition of every axiom we've been fed all our lives. I can also agree with on about the very materialistic and self centered nature of the characters. the depths of their problems are very shallow. episode after episode, they sit in countless restaurants bitching about a broken heel or an un-returned call from a date. I would have particularly enjoyed watching how they would have handled the more challenging issues in life.

anyhow, that is my 2 pence.

All of my girl friends love the show too as well as most other girls I know, but I never liked it either and have also had to explain why. My (female) boss asked me if I was going to see the movie and when I told her no she looked SHOCKED and demanded to know why!

I don't think I ever watched a complete episode from start to finish, mostly because I didn't have HBO when it originally aired. I've seen enough of a bunch of episodes that I know all of the important characters and storylines, so I think I know enough to know that I hate the show.

I've personally never been about designers and shoes, though I don't really fault people who are. I don't even think the complete preoccupation on sex is all that terrible in the grand scheme of things, but I agree that what is terrible is the generalization this show has created toward women. We MUST all love the show like robots; we MUST all be either a Carrie, a Miranda, a Charlotte or a Samantha and proudly declare it. My friends have tried to pin me in as one...no one can agree, so I'm apparently a mix of them all...

How dare I be a traitor to the female sex and hate Sex and the City!...so which one of them does that make me?

Sex and the City was a show for idiots.. I found your article to be rather refreshing. I could not identify with any of the female characters on that show, I also found them to be superficial sluts.. the kind of women that you would never want to be friends with.. I also never found any of the jokes humorous.. I identify more with the female characters on "the Office" than I ever could with Carrie and her "Gang of Whores".

I am a photographer and I was recently asked by an usher at a wedding I was shooting---"Will you be going to see the Sex and the City movie?" When I replied, "No." he seemed puzzeled, and asked "Why?" When I replied, "I didn't really care for that show." He seemed extremely shocked, "Why didn't you like it, what about it did you not like?" I actually had to defend my distaste for the show.. because this show has given a false impression about women.. as is I have to like this show because am a 27 year old woman?? Because I am a woman i am suppose to be obsessed with designer clothes and want to get drunk and go clubbing every night, i am suppose to spend all my money on shoes, and be a intellectual vacuum??

I finally got the guy to shut up after insisting, "I hated the show, I thought it was an example of everything I hate about our society, I thought the characters were unintelligent, materialistic, needy and pathetic. I didn't identify with anything on that show!" His brilliant reply, "Oh, I thought every girl liked that show."

I hate the creators of Sex and the City for forcing me to have that conversation with that idiot usher.

Well put, Empress Eve, though as bitch happy pointed out, maybe that's why we're willing to associate with a site with the word "Geeks" in its name. I've never been an SATC fan either, though I'm in the target demographic. I have enjoyed the episodes I've seen, but my overall impression of the characters is that they're incredibly whiny despite their wealth, their fabulous jobs, and their name-brand possessions. I realize it's fantasy, but it's not the kind of fantasy life I'd want to lead.

You're right. This movie is for ADULTS who know the truth about the cost of living EVERWHERE, that emotional, physical and financial consequences exist and that we have the freedom to choose for ourselves!! I watched the show and movie and found some redeeming qualities, but it glorifies promiscuity, extreme materialism and irresponsible behavior. Is it a mirror or are we robots? Why do people all of a sudden want to drink cosmos? Can't they decide what they like? That's what I wonder. Why can't we be Annie, Susie, Jane and Mary instead of someone else??

When I went to a midnight screening of The Strangers last night-- the Sex And the City screening were sold out. Tons of teenage girls all over the place. I think I watched a couple of episodes of the show, but what I remember is all the people who bought Candace Bushnell books-- they worship her.
The movie seems like for hardcore fans only.

A two-and-a-half hour movie about hollowed out, shoe-obsessed, leathery harridans that are now only attractive to other women and gay men?

WHERE DO I SIGN!

Very good, Eve. You will be spared when the revolution comes.

Not that its anything impressive, but there is an episode where Carrie deals with an abortion she had way back when she slept with some waiter guy. She struggles with whether or not to tell the one night stand guy. Overall these women should should be dead from disease.
