This issue is somewhat of an improvement, than the previous two issues in the series, but I find myself disliking main character Zayne Carrick as much as I usually do. John Jackson Miller, the pen for this issue, reminds us that Carrick’s goodness is an important part of his character and we can truly identify with him especially with is underdeveloped skills as a Jedi. I like this aspect because in the Star Wars universe we have only seen super Jedi Masters and awesome Padawans. I have always wondered about the average ones and Carrick is certainly that.
In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #27, an ancient evil gains long-coveted power. Something terrible is spreading among the Mandalorians, threatening to bring their conquest of the galaxy to a whole new level! Unfortunately, Padawan Zayne Carrick and the Marn Hierogryph Gryph don’t even know how they’re going to survive. Lucky for the galaxy, their companion Jedi Celeste Morne has a few ideas about what to do. Unlucky for Zayne, Celeste’s boss wants him dead! The story jumps a bit and it features some elements from its crossover, which I haven’t read.
The art is dicey and very distracting at some points, but ultimately it looks like you are reading a Star Wars comic. Scott Hepburn’s inability to work with faces is probably the biggest distraction of all, but it doesnât make it hard to read. Not as good as Legacy or Dark Times and probably the weakest of the three Star Wars comic book titles, but it isn’t bad and features some interesting characters and plots that wouldn’t disappoint any Star wars fan out there.
