I can’t say that I’ve ever been a massive fan of Iron Man, and though I enjoyed the movie, it hasn’t necessarily sent me sprinting to read any and every Iron Man comic out there. However, one Marvel character that I do like is Ant-Man, and according to the movie’s director, the movie is not just setting itself up as a comedy.
“I guess it’s as funny as something like Iron Man is,” said director Edgar Wright regarding his current writing project, Ant-Man. “It’s on that level of entertainment, really. It’s a big, high concept, special effects comic book adaptation, and very character-led”¦”
This is definitely good news, coming out of an interview with PiQ Mag. The 34-year-old producer, director, and writer is working hard on the second draft for Marvel, for the 2010 release of Ant-Man.
The man behind movies like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Wright has become a geek-fan favorite; more so since he scored the job of directing and producing the 2009 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, based on the comic.
There was always the chance that Ant-Man could have been turned into a comedic endeavor, but with Marvel’s desire to make all the movies lead up to a team-up Avengers movie, that seemed unlikely. To hear this from the horse’s mouth, however, is still nice.
