Director McG posted on the Terminator Salvation production blog today, where he shared some thoughts on how things are going halfway through the filming and where they are aiming to go.
Athough most of you are already aware of the plot of the film by now, it’s still worth sharing. Here’s how McG describes the upcoming fourth Terminator film:
All three Terminator films took place present day, with Terminators traveling back in time to attack. This picture takes place after Judgment Day. It happened. Everything is gone. The story of the movie is the “brink moment” Reese always talked about.
McG also talked about what the filmmakers are trying to accomplish.
From a technical perspective, we have set out to achieve a completely new visual style that hasn’t been seen before. We’re shooting the film on color stock but are using a method inspired by the Oz process which was developed at Technicolor by Mike Zacharia and Bob Olson. Basically we are adding three times as much silver. It creates a surreal texture that is in keeping with the notion of the entire picture - feeling detached from the world we know today.
He also added a brief description of another way to look at the story:
The richness of the story is really coming out now. It’s a Prometheus tale really, how creating life creates real responsibility - and if left unchecked, can be our undoing.

I was thinking a little earlier about this and I decided — wouldn’t it have been SO kick-ass if in T4, they finally got to this moment in time that every Terminator movie told us about, but instead of this big horrifying war, John Connor discovers that it was actually a group of mega-genius mechanical engineers who built these machines after a night of heavy drinking and sent them back to screw with the People of Simpler Times? (that’s what they call us in the future)
That would be awesome.
T4 is really sounding good, not to mention, hearing that theme again just rules.
