Johns and Van Scriver Tackling Barry Allen’s Flash

MajorJJH   |    |

FlashWhen you look back over the last few years of comics, two events have stuck out as being two of the best. They managed to bring a character out of the doldrums and bring him in to not only the spotlight, but back in to the hearts of many. This character was Hal Jordan, the series were Green Lantern: Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War, and the creative team behind both was Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Scriver.

And now we’ve got confirmation that the pair will be returning to work together, to work their magic on another character that has been flagging of late: the Flash. But this time, it isn’t Wally West, but the newly returned Barry Allen, in a five-issue miniseries called The Flash: Rebirth.

Speaking to CBR at San Diego Comic Con, Johns and Van Scriver said they are hoping “…to do for Flash what we managed to do for Green Lantern.”

But this time around, both Johns and Van Scriver are getting the chance to work on the character that they love the most, the Flash. Geoff Johns has already spent time working on the Flash, writing Wally West’s character from 2000 to 2005, at which time he decided to leave. “When I left the book, I still had stories for ‘The Flash.’ I still have stories for his villains, for his supporting cast, for the Rogues. I have ideas to expand his world,” said Johns.

Johns also said that work that he is currently doing on Rogues’ Revenge and Legion of Three Worlds will feed directly into The Flash: Rebirth. This is good news, especially considering how good Johns’ first issue of Rogues’ Revenge was.

The big question now remains whether Johns, Van Scriver, and colorist Moost Baumann who also worked on Green Lantern: Rebirth, will be working on a continuing Flash series with Barry Allen after the five-issue miniseries. Johns was tight lipped, but did say that “I am rededicating myself to the Flash.”
