‘Gladiator’ To Star In ‘Conan’ and/or ‘Captain America’?

MajorJJH   |    |

I’m not 100 percent certain if the stars of American Gladiators are as pathetic and dim-witted as the ones on the show that airs down here in Australia, but if it is, this is suspiciously bad news. Speaking on the Omaha broadcast Todd n’ Tyler radio show, Mike O’Hearn, otherwise known as “Titan” on American Gladiators, said that he has passed the audition stage for the Conan movie, and is also scheduled to audition for Captain America.

Mike O’Hearn to be Captain America?

Earlier this year, Lionsgate bought the rights to Conan, based on the Robert E. Howard-created character Conan the Barbarian that once saw Arnold Schwarzenegger star as the buff hero. Now, it looks as if we’ve swapped one brain-dead muscle-bound actor for another.

According to O’Hearn; “Today’s not even an audition. They’re bringing me in today just to sit me down and talk. How about that? It’s even better than an audition!”

It gets even worse though, especially for fans of actual good movies, with the news that O’Hearn has a casting session scheduled with Marvel Studios for their adaptation of Captain America.

O’Hearn has “acting experience” (there’s no way that pair of words is getting outside of those quotes) away from Gladiators as well (tee he he). Apparently he has appeared in Days of our Lives, which really just makes my point for me. He has also appeared in Sandy Collera’s 2004 fan film World’s Finest as Superman/Clark Kent.

So let us now begin the “No Way In Hell is O’Hearn Playing Captain America” campaign. I won’t have no pretty-boy playing Cap!

Sigh. You’d think they’ve learned something after all the amazing success of BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT.

Intelligent, truly experienced actors can play superheroes to great success. Why go for superficial resemblances?

  2. Schutzenegger Says:

Well, I seem to recall another soap opera actor being cast to play a certain Superman…

Maybe… just maybe this will work

  3. Schutzenegger Says:

Sorry, I forgot to include some more sarcasm, so that it would be evident to other readers that I thought Superman’s casting was dumb

  4. Joseph Says:

I thought you were being serious! Yeah this is very bad. Conan might work but I am dissapointed. No way does he get the green light for Caps. Don’t even sweat it.

  5. Jason Says:

What in Sam Hill?! Eckhart expressed interest in Captain America. Why the hell go for a mimbo?!

  6. mo Says:

guess this wont be brubaker’s capt.

and yeah, he does look the part…..i just don’t see how a captain america movie will go over….never was a very interesting character to me until the winter soldier era.

  7. NeverWanderer Says:

It’s nice for the guy to dream, but there’s no way he’s getting the Cap role.

As for him as Conan? ::shrug:: Could work! The first movie was brilliant. If they decided to go the Millius route and not try to over-crowd the plot, the sad (but, in this case, oddly acceptable) fact is that it doesn’t matter how good of an actor they have playing Conan. He just has to look the role and manage to be convincingly stoic. (Though, I’ll always argue that in Conan and T2, Arnie was actually good, instead of just downplaying how bad he was).

I’ll reserve judgement on that one.

And, not to support the idea of this guy being able to play Cap, but fact is, for all the bad actors that we see in daytime soaps, they’ve also given us actors like George Clooney and Nathan Fillion. Everybody’s gotta cut their teeth somewhere.

  8. korollocke Says:

to be conan you need a big guy, to really be cap you need to be big, eckhart hasn’t got the look or build, though i think danny devito was born to play modok.

  9. Siah Says:

u have got to be kidding me, this is like Fabio in stars and stripes with a shield.. no way!..
and as for Conan, i think Triple H would be grrrrreat, he has the look, but the acting might need some sprucing up.. i heard a rumor Triple H was also being considered for the role of Thor..

  10. Kortoso Says:

He’s gotta be a Billy Bad Ass to play Conan. I don’t see that with this guy.
