In light of the news that 20th Century Fox has filed suit against Warner Bros. regarding the production of the upcoming Watchmen, attempting to apparently halt its appearance at all, the internet has gone up in flames as Watchmen fanboys have deluged websites and message boards with cries of vengeance on Fox.

In what could be nothing more than a massive social experiment focusing on fanboys (unlikely sure, but intriguing nonetheless), Fox has seen itself quickly become the bad guy. Fans have promised to boycott Fox films, and even try to sabotage the 2009 release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a Fox product (and, not surprisingly, a Marvel product).

One of the focuses of the fanboys’ rage that is circulating like a pool of ineffective sperm is the apparent timing of the lawsuit. Many believe that Fox has waited until WB was finished with filming to ensure that they do the most amount of damage. However, those much more in tune with legal proceedings have noted that this lawsuit is not Fox’s first attempt at resolving this issue with WB. According to a source at Fox, studio lawyers have indeed contacted WB prior to the start of production, but were apparently rebuffed.

This comes as no surprise given that WB believes that Fox do not have “any rights in and to this project.”

Most experts watching this case believe that one of two things is going to happen: 1) Warner Bros. will win or 2) Warner Bros. will offer Fox a large lump sum to shut them up!

Either way, it looks as if we can get ourselves ready for March 6, 2009, and the release of Watchmen.
