It seems all of those rumors about a remake of John Carpenter’s scifi/horror cult classic The Thing were just a tad off.
Latino Review is reporting that the movie will in fact be a prequel and will fill us in on what happened leading up to the events of the 1982 movie, which starred Kurt Russell.
While speaking to newbie director Marc Abraham, LR asked if this would be a remake or a sequel and this was the simple answer they got:
This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive…. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame.
Pretty straight-forward and pretty smart if you ask me. There’s no reason to try and top a classic — the best that you can do is try and add to the over-all story and try not to mess it up.

A prequel to a remake? Hey, as long as JC is involved it, I’m willing to give it a go. If it does follow the Norwegians, does that mean the whole movie will be in subtitles? (joking! jeeez) I say, since it’s in the same time frame, they should make a prequel/sequel in one shot. Picks up with the Norg and ends with a norg survivor stumbling upon Macready and Childs after they torch their camp. Yeah, full circle in one shot
