I recently watched it on-demand with my right-wing-extremist father-in-law (after I described it as a "monster movie"). You could actually hear the ice crack in the room during the scene with Reagan. It's such a classic in tone and form, I can't really see a remake being warranted, however. I absolutely love this movie.
