Definitely, Maybe was actually a really great movie. She was smart to choose that over this movie. My Blueberry Nights... not so much. I couldn't finish it.

As for the majority of the audiences, Mummy 3 made less than the first two films world wide and made even less domestically. So if you are going for the "Majority" argument, that does not fly at all.

It’s obvious after watching this film on why Rachel turn it down, it’s awful. Now you can make the so called argument about her turning her back and fame and fortune but having self respect is priceless and this film did not have any self respect for the Mummy films that came before or its fans. The dig by the author of this article at Rachel for not doing this film was uncalled for and if you really want to get technical, both of the films that Rachel did ( Definitely, Maybe and My Blueberry Nights) are considered way better than anything that was featured in Mummy 3, a film that is on a lot of top ten worst list for the year.

I liked this movie for the fun action film it is. Is it great? No, but I really love this franchise and I enjoyed revisiting it.

I happened to be a big fan of Rachel Weisz and feel that she was a great part of The Mummy movies' success. I can understand why she turned down revisiting the role, she probably didn't want to play the same character over and over again -- because, you know, they can stretch this out of god knows how many movies. But I feel that this movie would have been SO much better with her in it.

Also, you have to admit, she gave up a popular, most likely lucrative role in a major studio blockbuster -- on paper that doesn't seem like a wise career move. While Howard commented above "not to give career advice," you have to admit that Weisz gave up a lot of fame and money when she gave up the role. The other two movies she did didn't do well.

And by the way, The Mummy 3 did better at the box office then Hellboy II, so regardless of what some people here think about the film not being good, obviously, the majority of audiences did not agree.

Just saying.

Let me see, Rachel should have turn down two decently well made films for a movie that was down right awful and is considered one of the worst films of 2008.

Please, you should not give career advice.

The best thing about this movie is the fact that some very good film technicians, crew members and actors in Montreal were employed and paid on time. The work was good for their families and livelihood. The movie itself... is dreck. Take a pass on it.

The concept is tired, it's a retread taken beyond it's breaking point, and the only thing worse than the duo having a son (who becomes the heir to the Mummy/Hero crown) is the fact that Indiana Jones went down the same easy path. For what should have been a good movie...it sure was disappointing. Yeah some of the action was well done... but what's that without a good script and/or plot? And don't get me started on missing Weisz... she was missed but it only shows you that she had the good sense to stay clear of this train wreck.

God I hated this flick.
