One More Epic 2009 Movie Preview!

The Movie God   |    |

Wild ThingsNot too long ago, we shared a preview of what to look for in 2009 (see A Taste Of What The ‘09 Movie Slate Has In Store). Although we are now a good little chunk into the big 2009, that doesn’t mean that it’s too late for more preview goodness, so when the opportunity presented itself we couldn’t help but do it again. Now the LA Times has their own collection of 2009 preview images, so naturally, we’ve found the newer and more exciting ones to share with you.

Because we used it in the first preview, I’ve included the brand new Where the Wild Things Are image as our main image, so be sure to check that one out as well!

Star Trek — May 8, 2009

Star Trek

Definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2009. Lifelong fans and movie fans alike have been and are salivating in anticipation of this brand new Star Trek adventure from J.J. Abrams. The movie will show us the earlier days of all the favorite characters from the previous shows and movies. The only difference here is that instead of the cheesy effects and bad acting, you’re going to get top notch special effects and some possibly decent performances. The question is, will this enhance things, or will it destroy the charm? Star Trek stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, and even Leonard Nimoy.

Fanboys — February 6, 2009

Fanboys

A movie that’s actually been around for what seems like years; it looks like we’ll finally get a chance to see it! This is the ultimate geek movie, following a group of friends in 1998 who set off on a mission to break into George Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of The Phantom Menace for their dying friend. Fanboys has gone through hell and back trying to make it to theaters, including studios trying to make it more of a stupid comedy instead of using the seemingly unfitting dramatic storyline that had been getting good feedback. I’m not even 100% sure which version of the movie we’re going to see in theaters. The trailer, while funny, doesn’t give the slightest hint toward a dying friend having anything to do with it, so we can only wait and see. I’m sure that if they did go and make a silly version, the real one will be available on DVD someday.

Coraline — February 6, 2009

Coraline

The newest offering by way of author Neil Gaiman’s book — Coraline tells the tale of a young girl (voiced by Dakota Fanning) who, while searching the new apartment that her and her mother and father have just moved into, finds a doorway that leads to a duplicate-yet-twisted parallel world. In this world, her parents look almost completely the same, but they’re seemingly much, much nicer and they have black buttons for eyes. The movie is in stop-motion form and is directed by Henry Selick, who also did a little ditty known as The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Observe & Report — April 10, 2009

Observe & Report

Observe & Report is a new comedy that stars Seth Rogen as a mall security guard (mall security movie battle with Paul Blart!?) who attempts to stop a mall flasher who’s running around and obviously ruining some days. When he’s unable to stop the slippery show-it-all, a detective (Ray Liotta) is brought in to do the job. No idea whether this will be a complete stupid-silly party or not, but it has Seth Rogen, so to start I’m willing to give it benefit. Whenever a trailer comes skipping along will most likely be the best way to see for sure what this one has in store for us.

Race to Witch Mountain — March 13, 2009

Witch Mountain

The newest from Disney that caught a lot of buzz at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. Race to Witch Mountain follows a cab driver who ends up trying to protect a couple of very powerful extraterrestrial kids from an evil organization who wants to use the children for… not good things. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, AnnaSophia Robb, and Alexander Ludwig. I’m sure this one isn’t going to go blowing many minds, but at the same time, it does look like a possibly fun family movie to check out; and whether you like that kind of movie or not, it’s a severely welcomed thing among Eddie Murphy’s latest and greatest hits.

Funny People — July 31, 2009

Funny People

While not the most exciting of images, Funny People is still one to keep a keen eye on. The movie is from Judd Apatow, who is known for offering incredibly funny but also very crude and very adult-themed comedies; but this one is a little
different. The movie follows George (Adam Sandler) — a stand up comedian who finds out he’s got less than a year to live — who forms a bond with another nobody comedian named Ira (Seth Rogen) after hiring him to be his personal assistant. Sounds to be a lot more sad and dramatic than anything we’ve seen from Apatow, though Knocked Up did have it’s share of the drama. This one will certainly be interesting to see, especially with someone like Sandler involved in this other comedy world.

That does it for the second edition of our 2009 preview. Another look at how much is coming our way starting very soon.
