Brett Ratner To Direct ‘Youngblood’ Adaptation

The Movie God   |    |

Youngblood

In a move that just may confirm that he only signs on to direct movies as opposed to actually directing movies, Brett Ratner has signed to direct an adaptation of the comic book Youngblood. Reliance Big Entertainment acquired the rights to the property and signed a deal with Ratner and his Rat Entertainment while at the Berlin Film Festival.

Youngblood is about a team of superheroes that has been assembled by the U.S. government, which also oversees the team. Members include Badrock, who is all rock like The Fantastic Four’s The Thing, as well as a former FBI agent named Shaft and an assassin named Chapel. A second team also exists and one of their enemies is called The Four, which consists of four baddies.

The comic originated in 1987. No word on the time table for the movie.

This project joins its own team of Brett Ratner projects which includes a Hugh Hefner flick, a God of War video game-based movie, the new Conan re-boot, and many others. This is why one has to wonder if he actually intends to direct any of these. I’m not saying it as a jab, it’s just a little odd to obtain so many projects and not see any movement on any of them.

I guess this begs the question. Can you ruin something that already kind of sucks?

  2. Ted Says:

Finally! A comic book worthy of Ratner’s talents! *chuckle*

  3. middleman Says:

I don’t think it came out in 1987. Wasn’t the first issue in the 1990s?

  4. middleman Says:

Upon investigation, I see Liefeld did a one shot backup story in 1987. The comic issue came out in the 90s.

  5. burning_chrome Says:

The only way I’ll actually pay money to see this movie is if Ratner does it as a mockumentary: “Youngblood: Behind the Scenes of Steroids, Silicone and Spandex in Comics”

  6. elDuendeVerde Says:

Yeah, I somehow “won” the first issue of this series from some comic book store or something. I don’t really remember it at all. Just that it is more or less the culmination of all that was wrong with comic books in the 90’s.
