Watched the remake just 2 weeks ago, Pffft, just like what I thought, same as the original ones – Boring and dull and well….plainly shit. Jason and ‘Friday The 13th’ films never really scared me, they were just badly writtened and badly executed. Jason hasn’t done anything amazing, nor anything fun, nor anything entertaining, just boring. I give the whole series: 1/5 stars

Jason is definitely more fierce and threatening than he has been in ages. Still, I can’t say that I cared for the movie that much. It has its moments, but it is still kind of run of the mill for a slasher film. Derek Mears did do a great job, I’ll give you that. Excellent review!

Ok. Friday the 13th [2009]. Where do I start? Let me begin by saying I really wanted to like it! I went in with an open mind and knew it would be a new imagining. What I didn’t know is that I would be falling asleep!Remakes actually can be good if they are made with more depth into the story or done the same way but just more exciting [as with Halloween & Texas Chainsaw]. Both pretty good remakes. Unfortunately, Friday 13th was not given any extra back story into Jason nor did it even follow the “Friday” guidelines. What they did was like making a Superman movie & casting a woman to play him & instead of being from space, he’s from Mexico. You have to ask yourself if the director watched the previous films!
As a fan of 1-4 for years, there are reasons why people like me enjoy those movies. We always look forward to the final battle as well as some suspensful instrumental music to go along with it. The new remake has neither. It seemed as if there was zero passion put into this movie and that it wasn’t even a “Friday” movie.
Yes, Jason was in it and it was at Camp Crystal Lake but it was some other movie that had not an ounce of the series feel. That is ok if it’s good, however it was boring and lifeless.
I felt like I was watching a serial killer documentary on Tv [the one you fall asleep to because it's so drab].
At least in the new Halloween, Rob Zombie had the good sense to give us a much needed back story on Michael Meyers and it worked. We saw how a child could become what he did & it seemed realistic.
This is what the new “Friday” needed! What happened at the camp when Jason drowned? When Mrs. Voorhees got decapitated did Jason see it from underneath the water or from the shore somewhere? I mean, we keep hearing how he saw it so, how did he see it?? While growing up, where was he? At the lake? Pissed off? Staying at the Ritz Carlton till he was 18? These are things people [fans] want to see. Why make another movie killing idiots with out a soul to the project??
There are a lot of people that leave comments saying, “it’s just a horror movie”…”it’s not that important.” Well, the person that says that also has a type of movie or show they love. Maybe Star Wars. Maybe The Godfather. Who knows? Maybe those are JUST MOVIES too! Mess with something they like and they will sing a new tune. Guarantee it!
The bottom line is, very few fans will like this. The new kids will like it cuz they have no clue. Oh, well. At least they tried but I give it a D+. Tried really hard to like it. Just wasn’t Friday the 13th.

Your review is fine, but you should have noted the exceptional performance of Amanda Righetti who played Whitney to near emotional perfection.

This is the most positive review I have read of this film.
It seems that Jason is getting the most raves from even people who do not like it.
I did like or hate it, I just took it for what it was.
I was never a huge fan of the old films, just not my thing, but this one is very slick looking.
