How the frak 'Dollhouse' managed to surivive a full season and renewed (AFAIK) for a second one is beyond me. If memory serves, doesn't Universal still have the rights to Firefly/Serenity since the movie was done thru them? I'd be sad and disappointed if Whedon doesn't return to his creation, but as long as Tim Minear is running the show, I'd still have faith in what may come from our beloved motley crew of outlaws, fugitives, and wanderers.
