Paul W.S. Anderson To Bring ‘The Three Musketeers’ To 3-D

The Movie God   |    |

Three Musketeers

Paul W.S. Anderson, who is best known for his work as a writer, director, and producer in the world of video game movies, is lining up a new project to bring us a fresh take on the tale of The Three Musketeers, and it appears that it as well, will be in 3-D.

The Three Musketeers was first created in 1844 by Alexandre Dumas, and tells the tale of a man named D’Artagnan who wants to become a member of the King of France’s royal forces. While on his task, he meets a trio named Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, who are members of the Royal Guard and challenge him to a duel. Their competition is disrupted, but enough is seen for the Three Musketeers to welcome D’Artagnan in as a friend and fight by his side.

The project is a strange one for Anderson, though it’s not clear whether he will direct this or not. At the current, it appears that he is only producing it based on a script he wrote with his friend and Bridget Jones’ Diary scribe, Andrew Davies. Anderson has directed video game based movies like Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil, as well as other movies like Event Horizon, AVP: Alien vs. Predator, and Death Race. He’s been currently working on a script for a Castlevania movie.

It sounds like the plan is to keep the story in its natural setting, but Anderson also wants to modernize it a little where he is able to:

We are definitely modernizing ‘The Three Musketeers’ without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece, but in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage.

Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.

How this could possibly work in 3-D is absolutely beyond my comprehension, but that of course could change over time.
