Read The First Chapter Of Robert Jordan’s ‘The Gathering Storm’ Free Online Now

Henchman21   |    |

I know I’m not the only one looking forward to the October 27, 2009 release date of The Gathering Storm, the first posthumous novel in Robert Jordan’s massive Wheel of Time series (the book was co-written by Brandon Sanderson).

On this day, the second anniversary of the author’s death, Tor Books has blessed us by releasing the first chapter of The Gathering Storm on their webpage. If you go to Tor.com and register (registering is free), you too can read the first chapter.

The chapter, titled “Tears of Steel,” starts as every other Wheel of Time book begins, with the familiar phrase “The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.”

What follows is a standard first chapter to any Wheel of Time book, but I’ll let you read it yourself. If you’re like me, you’ve been looking forward to this release for a long time, and thank goodness the wait is almost over.

  1. The Movie God Says:

I’m still only on book 3.

Need to get back on this.

I’m a terrible, terrible book reader.

  2. Empress Eve Says:

I only read through Book 6 and it’s been a while since I’ve visited the series. I heard that books 8-10 weren’t as good as the rest, so I wonder how the books after it were.

  3. Egotiger Says:

OMG, after all this time the almost end (probably not) to a series that has gone beyond what any rational person would deem to be a good series. I am sorry that he passed away before seeing the end to it, but in all honesty this is a series that should have ended years ago.

  4. Tarsonus Says:

sadly i never got into wheel of time series…i instead read the sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind and Feists “Magician” series, that leads and links through like 7 books i think.

  5. Magpie Says:

Don’t read past book six it just disappoints.

Great first six books way too stretched out and I call BS on it was only suppose to be 12 books.

  6. Lyrà Says:

Personally I would of thought the series would be thirteen books long, because Robert Jordan’s magic number throughout the entire series has been 13.

  7. Bryan V Says:

The series only gets better! Especially book 11, and I suspect 12 will be equally awesome!!!

  8. Reading again Says:

Only read to book 6! Do you also leave movies in the middle? I’ve loved the character development and when I heard # 12 was around the corner I stared reading them all again… I’m in the middle of book 10 now.

  9. Empress Eve Says:

    @Reading again
Hey now! These books are around 1000 pages, and I have a lot of other books to read, so it’s just taking me a while to get through the entire series. I didn’t say I wouldn’t going to do it. And I think not finishing a 1000-page each, 12-book series is a lot different than leaving one movie in the middle.
