Not too long ago, word came out that Danny Trejo (Con Air, Desperado) was the first name to be cast in Predators — the new reboot directed by Nimród Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios. That news was immediately followed up by a script review that filled us in on all of the dirty details, as well as the many cool and exciting characters that we would see battling to survive the vicious creatures in the movie (Read: Script Review Of Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Predators’ Reveals All Kinds Of Juicy Details; Our Dream Cast Shared!). With one swift blow, the majority of the actors who will be filling these excellent roles has now been revealed, and while they are not the part of the fantasy cast we put together, there’s not denying that it’s an interesting group.

The list of names includes Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, King Kong); Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3, That 70s Show) is currently in negotiations; Alice Braga (City of God, I Am Legend); Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (The 4400, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button); Walt Goggins (The Shield, Shanghai Noon); and former UFC star Oleg Taktarov (Bad Boys 2, 15 Minutes).

The movie will take place on a planet inhabited by Predators who find the best of the best human predators — killers, hunters, assassins, soldiers — to bring to their planet to hunt.

Here are the character descriptions and who’s likely playing them.

Brody will likely be playing the lead role, a Steve McQueen type who is taken by the Predator at the beginning and brought to the planet to meet the rest of the humans that have been put there.

Cuchillo: A Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who totes dual Uzis — As we know, Danny Trejo has been cast in this role.

Nikolai: A huge Russian man which an equally large gas-powered machine gun — Former UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov will be showing up in this one.

Isabelle: The resident femme fatale, she speaks French and is surgical with a sniper rifle — Obviously, we’ll see City of God actress Alex Braga here.

Stans: A prisoner from San Quentin who fits the profile of your lovable local White Supremacist who is apparently only armed with a prison-made shiv — I’m assuming this part is going to be played by Walt Goggins.

Mombasa: An African member of the Sierra Leone Death Squad — I’m sad to say, the one I really wanted out of all of these was Mr. Eko in this role. Instead, it will be played by Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.

Hanzo: A Japanese Yakuza enforcer who’s likely to be wielding a sweet Katana sword (or, in a perfect world, the shiny steel of a Hattori Hanzo blade…as the name might indicate) — As far as can be told, no one has been cast for this role yet.

Edwin: Formerly on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, he’s a small man who doesn’t appear to be dangerous at all — This is the role that Topher Grace is in negotiations to play.

Alex Litvak and Michael Finch wrote the script with Rodriguez and Predators will be released on July 7, 2010.
