Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Back in March we found out that the producing duo on Shane Acker’s 9, Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, would be uniting once again for a movie based on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith‘s new novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

At the time, it was unclear who would direct the movie, which tells an alternate history tale of Abraham Lincoln who also happened to battle supernatural evil in addition to his political accomplishments. Now, after a little chat with Empire Magazine, Bekmambetov has revealed that it is he who plans on directing the movie, and is preparing it at this very moment.

You can click over to read a description of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as well as to see the trailer for the book.

Here’s what Bekmambetov had to say about his Lincoln adaptation:

That one I’m prepping to direct myself. It is not a comedy at all – it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember Nightwatch, it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie.

We are keeping the traditional look of Lincoln – the big hat and the beard. He has to be historically correct, but with a few special weapons. There is only one book, but there will be many opportunities to develop and explore this world if we get to do sequels. I hope we will start this winter. We are shooting in America.

If you missed it, we were even lucky enough to get Mr. Lincoln’s thoughts on the book and film about his secret violent past. You can check it out by heading here: Read: Exclusive: Abraham Lincoln Responds To “˜Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ News.

Bekmambetov also discusses a laundry list of other potential projects, including Wanted 2, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Moby Dick, and another chapter in his Nightwatch franchise called Twilight Watch. You can read all about these by heading to the Empire link above.

DESCRIPTION

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother’s bedside. She’s been stricken with something the old-timers call “Milk Sickness.”

“My baby boy…” she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother’s fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, “henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose…” Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.
