While we usually tend to stay away from non-news stories, it is a slow day and this is substantial enough for a bit of decent conversation.
It’s been revealed that director Christopher Nolan has set up meetings with a who’s who of top Hollywood actresses for potential roles in his much-anticipated third film in Warner Brothers’ Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises.
According to reports, Nolan is meeting Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, and Blake Lively. Apparently the director is not just looking to cast one role, but two: one to be a love interest of Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), and the other to be a villain in the movie.
All of these actresses could likely pull off either role, but you’ll immediately distinguish who’s more likely for what. Portman is really difficult to imagine as any type of villain; she’s simply too tiny and too adorable for such evil. You’d have to assume that Lively is probably more suited to the love interest as well, though we haven’t seen her enough to really get a grasp on range. Hathaway and Knightley could easily be love interests, but they both feel much more like villain candidates. Watts and Weisz are a little older and are really up in the air as to which way they’d go if cast.
This is simply speculation, of course — and I’m not of the Batman pedigree to make such speculations. So what do you the readers think? Catwoman is the obvious villain, and Harley Quinn jumps to mind (though it would be tragic to have that character and not cast Katee Sackhoff…in my own humble opinion), but who do you see these six lovely ladies as on both the romantic and villainous side of things?

Katie Sackoff? haha awesome
Call me crazy, but I don’t really want to see any of them in this…they’re all too well known, and I’d have trouble fitting them into the Batman world.

Talia Head is still my top choice for villain and simultaneous love interest for this film. Besides Harley, she’s the only female villain I didn’t find lame.

I agree with C. I like all these actresses (not real familiar with Blake thought), but don’t want to see them in a Batman film…

Anne Hathaway as Thalia Al Ghul (Talia Head) is a match made in heaven.
somehow i feel Rachel Weisz would pass on being in a Batman movie unless she’s a closet comic fan. but stranger castings have happened… COUGHHelenaBonhamCarterPlaneoftheApesCOUGH!! not saying she can’t do a good job in a comic movie, i happen to love her as an actress, but i just don’t see it happening.

I just hope they do not pile on so many villains it ruins the movie.

I;m shooting for Rachel Weisz as Catwoman and if they are keepign to an early Batman storyline, then Vicki Vale would be an excellent love interest. Naomi Watts coudl nail it.

And what’s with the hate-on for well known? Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Heath Ledger, Liam Neeson… None of these names struck me as unknowns

I def agree with C on this one..too many big names…but its waayyy too early to bring Talia head into the big screen…Harley Quinn would be the best female villain..it would tie in very well with the last movie..Jess weixler in my opinion could do it…

Judy Greer is the obvious choice if we’re talking Harley Quinn.

Why limit these to love interests/villains, it’s plausible that one could be an older Barbara Gordon (thinking mainly of Blake Lively here)

I honestly don’t want them to put Harley in the movie. I honestly think she would be incomplete without her Mr.J.

If Hugo Strange is the lead villain as rumored, Silver St. Cloud fits as the female love interest. This would follow the Detective Comics storyline from the late 70’s I believe. (Steve Englehart I believe wrote while Marshall Adams and Terry Austin did the art.)
