At DC’s Flashpoint panel on Thursday at the San Diego Comic-Con 2011, DC Entertainment’s Executive Editor Eddie Berganza gave a hint as to what expect for DC’s September relaunch.
When FLASHPOINT started, we said “˜everything you know will change in a flash! Look through FLASHPOINT as well as the various mini-series and you start to get a hint at what that change means with DC Comics-The New 52! And with FLASHPOINT #5, you will clearly see how it all comes about “¦ and we give you other things to ponder as the DC Comics-The New 52 start to come out. August 31st is just the beginning!
Flashpoint is supposed to be the bridge between the current DC Universe and the upcoming “New 52.” Issue #5, coming August 31, is going to set the new universe in line. Hints have, apparently, been sprinkled throughout the miniseries and its tie-ins, which is not surprising, considering the appearance of characters like Grifter and other Wildstorm characters that have made their way into the Flashpoint series. The only problem is that the series doesn’t feel like it has any weight to it.
The Flashpoint event has felt like nothing more than a strange Elseworld’s or alternate reality tale that showcases weird interpretations on characters that we’re already familiar with. The Reverse Flash has been going in the past and changing certain aspects of the timeline to suit his own needs. This lead to a war between Atlanteans, led by Aquaman, and New Themyscira, the Amazons led by Wonder Woman that has caused global destruction. And with the announcement of different interpretations on characters, it seemed only logical to deduce that this event would create a seamless transition between the universe changes, but it hasn’t.
None of the Flashpoint interpretations of heroes have shown up in the news for any of the new 52, so it seems like issue #5 is going to simply be a convenient way to merge the universes. I’m sure that we’ll see the timeline shifting again and causing characters to show up in the main DCU, but the fact that the themes haven’t shown up in the miniseries will make it inorganic and disappointing from a storytelling aspect. The point is, “The New 52” is just the beginning.
With all these changes, only one thing is apparent. Booster Gold isn’t doing his job correctly.

That’s apparently a false assumption about Booster. One I made, too, don’t get me wrong–but was assured by Dan Jurgens that it’s mot the case.

Not a fan of DC anymore, and unimpressed by the Flashpoint series, and underwhelmed by the entire idea of the “New 52” everywhere from the designes of the costumes to the new concepts of the universe…except one thing. I will pay money to see a mini series where Bruce Wayne Batman meets Tommas Wayne Batman. Or even just the Flashpoint Joker. Hell, go for broke. Both. Â
