I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I like that nearly all my contacts are stored in one self-updating database, but am constantly annoyed with the notifications and inherent disregard for privacy. That being said, I've never been much for posting pictures to my account.

For a while my profile picture was represented by the default silhouette and it still would be had someone not drawn a picture of my likeness, which now occupies the space. However, if I'd have seen this collection of geeky Facebook silhouettes when I initially signed up, I'd probably still be rocking one of them now.

The collection features The Batman, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Stewie Griffin, among many others. It was created by Picasa user "TheBlasto" who points out "if you're a basic Photoshop user, these are really quick and easy to make. The trick is finding something that can be recognized by its silhouette." [...]

Yesterday, CBM posted what they thought was leaked concept art for Kenneth Branagh's live-action Thor movie. Though the image itself was labeled "Thor Movie Concept Design Art," CBM couldn't find its source. But, they did put a warning on the post that the image "could very well cause fits of anger amongst comic book purists," mostly referring to the revamping of Thor's mighty hammer Mjolnir.

Eventually it was discovered that the concept art was done by Dan Panosian, who's previously done illustrations for Captain America and Green Lantern, as well as Superhero Movie. Via his Twitter account, Panosian cleared up the confusion. This was not the concept art for Branagh's live-action Thor movie, although he thought it was when he accepted the commission from an Art Director who referred to the project as a "design for the Thor movie that Marvel is doing."

Turns out that the Thor movie was actually the animated Thor movie. Panosian only found this out after he had submitted his work.

Panosian explains the mix-up as well as his ideas for the design on his Deviant Art page Urban Barbarian. Read the entire message here [...]

Remember a few years ago when Todd McFarlane created his Twisted Land of Oz toyline, which gave the classic Wizard of Oz characters a new risque look and quite the alternate storyline?

Well, artist Tom Kyzivat has done some twisting of his own lately with some of the most beloved 1980's toys in his Post-Apocalyptic 80s Toy Storyline series.

The artist has posted five drawings on his Deviant Art page that depict Strawberry Shortcake as the leader of a rebellion against Brainy Smurf, known here as The Brain, with Rainbow Brite on her side as a Tank Girl-like demolitions expert.

While I love what Kyzivat has done with the ladies, my favorite re-imagined character is The Necromancer. See that image here at top right. I don't want to tell you who it is, because Kyzivat wants you to guess (if you look at the comments on the image on his site, you'll see him confirming this character's identity).

Lastly, there's a bear named The Pessimist (easily recognizable) and another Mystery character for you to guess (again, the answer is in the author's comments section).

Check out all the images and descriptions collected here [...]

The folks over at TeeFury have an interesting way of doing things. For those of you who are not aware of them, they have one unique t-shirt each and every day. This shirt goes up for sale at midnight on the button for the universal price of $9, and at midnight 24-hours later (or when it is sold out), it disappears into a vortex and is never ever seen again...EVER.

Today's design comes from the world of ABC's LOST, which is set to begin their sixth and final season this Tuesday night. The shirt takes one of TV's more popular (and mysterious) characters, John Locke (Terry O'Quinn), and begs the question "What Would John Locke Do?" and leaves us to ponder quietly.

Keep in mind that this one day is the only chance you'll ever have to acquire this shirt and show it off to jealous friends. This is a depressing thing for some people; there is no doubt that many with empty pockets have ventured to the site and saw something magical like this that slips their grasp and becomes a dream.
Of Pixar's constant flow of brilliant movies, Cars is probably the least liked of the bunch. So when it was announced that they were actually making a Cars 2, this came as a bit of a surprise to many, especially considering that Pixar usually has nothing to do with sequels aside from the Toy Story franchise. Of their library, the top choice for a sequel would probably have been The Incredibles, which is naturally built for multiple installments.

But alas, it is Cars 2 that is on the way, and the very first piece of concept art has now been released onto the internet, and you can head to the bottom of this very post to check it out now!

Not many details for Cars 2 are known at the moment. What we do know is that all of the characters are set to return, and this time Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) will be involved in an intense race around the world, while Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) rescues a secret agent and gets mixed up in the world of spies.
Recently we shared a couple of new images from ABC's Lost that showed the cast replicating Leonardo da Vinci's famed "The Last Supper" painting. This along with shows like Battlestar Galactica (seen above) and House have made it quite apparent that this was a popular thing to do whilst promoting your show. As it turns out, this happens all the time, and Jeremy from Culture Popped was able to point us to a ton of them to check out.

Among the many variations you will find many popular TV shows and movies and brand name characters. Titles like The Simpsons, Star Wars, M.A.S.H., South Park, and The Sopranos appear along with Walt Disney characters and brand characters from McDonalds and everything in between, all showing off their very own "Last Supper" renditions. Some are very well-done and worth seeing while others are basic and passable.

Click on over to the other side to check out a few of our favorite "Last Supper" parodies, and be sure to head over to Culture Popped where you can see an insane amount of these images all in one convenient location.
What's the greatest thing in the world during the holiday season time period when absolutely no exciting news is being reported? Well, a super-duper new fan made piece of art work in which some of the beloved and soon-to-be-returning characters of the ultra-popular animated series Futurama are used in a spoof of the also-popular science fiction film, The Fifth Element...naturally!

The image takes the lead Bruce Willis character and replaces him with Philip J. Fry; the Milla Jovovich character and replaces her with Amy Wong; and the Chris Tucker character is replaced by Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Lesser bits of the movie like the singing blue chick are replaced by Leela...and yes, Bender does make a cameo.

Click on over to the other side to check out the image; click to go big, big, big.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of The Fifth Element, but I will say, as a massive Futurama fan, I surely would watch it more if they remade it using these characters. Let's get on that; if Family Guy can do it with Star Wars, Futurama should be able to do it too. [...]

The feature film adaptation of instant classic video game BioShock has been in and out of the news multiple times with the hiring of Gore Verbinski to direct, and then followed by his unfortunate departure and the announcement that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would be taking his place.

Until we finally get to see what amazing or abominable paths they take with that live-action movie, we could once only imagine what a living and breathing Rapture might look like. Well, thankfully there's some pretty talented artists out there on our planet and one of them, named Harrison Krix, has done a damn fine job in helping to show us this real BioShock. Krix and his Volpin Props (Head here to see a bunch of amazingly detailed props) created a fantastic replication of a Big Daddy, added a Little Sister, and brought them to Dragon*Con. While that was all well and fun, it wasn't enough, and they went ahead and set up an arrangement to shoot some photographs with Dim Horizons at the Georgia Aquarium. Once they were finally able to get in for the shoot, the result was a very cool set of images of the Big Daddy and Little Sister in a tunnel surrounded by water and ocean life resembling the dark world of Rapture.
I'm celebrating Halloween in Philadelphia this year, so it's come to my attention that the Autumn Society has a Dia de los Muertos art show at Proximity Gallery here in town today.

One of the selections for the show is from artist Tom Whalen, who has contributed a Darth Vader sugar skull -- a Day of the Dead pop culture mash-up that if I had the money I'd run out and get tattooed on me right now.

Check out the Darth Vadar Sugar Skull image here at right (click for larger view) and check out Whalen's blog at Strong Stuff.

To see more entries from the show, visit The Autumn Society's page where the artists all blog about their contributions. (The Society is a collective of artists from the Philadelphia area, but it's branching out worldwide.)

The Society is also doing a Trick-Art-Treat art show at Brave New Worlds in Philly today 5pm - 8pm [...]

Click the image to see it in-full.

She isn't completely alone, as a solid, Dolberman version of Scooby has shed his goofy skin and is ready and willing to protect with highly-aggressive nature. Velma has also grown up in her new role, making sure to always be equipped with a shotgun, machete, and wooden stakes while wearing a cross 'round her neck. She also re-named the van The Misery Machine and pimped it out with flammables, an artillery of weaponry, a giant wooden stake, ultra-powered lights, and a nice little memorial for Fred, Daphne, and Shaggy.

The image definitely gives off a sort of Y: The Last Man vibe but with a woman and monster invasion instead. OK, maybe I Am Legend would work much better in comparison, but that movie sucked, so Y it is! [...]

For many, Star Wars and its entire mythology may be considered a religion in itself. But what if Star Wars WAS actually a religion all this time, and many classic works of art had been created in celebration of it? As we all know, there are many easily recognizable works of religious art -- most notably of them, of course, is The Last Supper. So who of us in the world of geekdom could resist the image of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan, R2-D2, George Lucas, and many others sitting at that legendary one-sided table for a little womp rat feast?

In all, there are twenty images of parody. Along with the Last Supper images, you can also see things like Yoda as the Pope, Storm Trooper stained glass art, and Princess Leia as Mary, holding an infant Yoda. There's a couple using newer characters from the movies we do not speak of, but they're pretty cool as well. [...]

You’ve seen them on gaming tables or in display cases, preserved and painted to amazing quality. If you’re a Dungeons & Dragons player like myself, odds are you have one of your own to represent your fantasy persona. They come separately packaged or in multi-figure kits, typically sculpted from plastic or pewter. These days, they can even be bought pre-painted for the avid gamer who would rather spend more time rolling dice than sitting at a painting table.

But where’s the fun in that?

If you’ve ever looked at a beautifully painted miniature and said to yourself, “I wanna do THAT!” then this, my friend, is the column for you.

I’m sure some of you may be thinking, “There’s no way I could ever be able to paint like that,” but don’t be discouraged! The people who do those incredible paint jobs started off just like you, and with the right guidance and plenty of practice, you could be giving them a run for their money in no time.

For the duration of this column, I will be discussing the techniques of painting your own miniature. I do not profess to being a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but that is the beauty of this rewarding and relaxing hobby... You don’t have to be a professional to share the tips and techniques that you’ve discovered! [...]

Now this is totally cool!

New York-based artist Devorah Sperber created an upside down tapestry made of 1,102 colored spools of thread. In front of it is a glass ball, that when you look through it, the spools are condensed and the image flipped to show Leonard Nimoy as Spock from the original Star Trek television series.

Per Sperber's site, the piece of art is titled Spock 1. The image is an artist's conceptual vision of the human/CGI combination special effects that will be used in the film.

Terminator Salvation is directed by McG and stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anton Yelchin, and Common, with some voice over work by Linda Hamilton and may Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In fact, this concept may be a peek at one of the options for Schwarzenegger's T-800; maybe grab him for the voice and use Arnie-clone Roland Kickinger along with this technique for the look. Who knows.

Click over to the other side for a look at the image. Be warned, it may be considered a little bit of a spoiler image for some of you, so click cautiously. I hate spoilers and I was able to check it out with no problem, so it shouldn't be too bad for anyone to look at, but I have not seen the movie yet and I could be very wrong.
Usually while enduring that unbearably long wait between the announcement of a movie and actually seeing a movie, we're given many things to keep us wanting more; whether it be images, concept art, trailers, official sites, and everything else. Usually concept art comes toward the very beginning before the images and trailers, but today, some of it comes a little later and that's just fine.

The concept art in question just so happens to come from a little movie called Terminator Salvation, so although we've seen other art, images galore, and multiple trailers already, it's still worth seeing this collection of very cool pieces!

The collection of artwork is also accompanied by many various quotes. To see and read everything, make sure you head over to Wired to read the story, but if you click over and continue reading, you can check out a few of the more interesting quotes along with all of the very cool pictures. Some of these quotes have been around and some are newer but most give a very good idea of the approach to the movie and the passion of the people involved [...]
