The Words That Will Put James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ At The Top Of Your Must-See List

The Movie God   |

It has been multiple years now that we’ve been aware of James Cameron and his revolutionary juggernaut of a movie, Avatar. As these years have passed, we’ve seen concept and behind-the-scenes images, but still not too much beyond that. Recently though, a small crowd of special peoples had the Willy Wonka-like opportunity to see 24-minutes of footage from the movie at CinemaExpo in Amsterdam.

Among this disgustingly lucky group of people, a handful of them offered up a description of what they saw, and it’s one of those situations where the words are really difficult to put together, and even harder for someone like myself to even attempt to recycle and be useful to you. In this matter, /Film gathered up a collection of clips of these descriptions and put them in one spot — you can go there to read them all, and you can follow the links provided to go to each site and read the full descriptions. Of the many that offered up a description of what they saw, I’ve picked a couple of bits to include below.

We all knew that Avatar was setting up to be a really special event and something that we’ve never seen, but after reading these recaps, you can’t help but put this movie at the very top of your must-see list. [...]

MTV Movie Awards Video Round-Up: ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘New Moon,’ ‘Transformers 2’

The Movie God   |

I’m just going to come right out and say it: The MTV Movie Awards are not quite what they used to be. Not only does everyone know the winners, allowing most of the losers to not even bother showing up; those who do win always end up being highly undeserving of the award thanks to the scary-large amount of little kids out there who rock the vote. In the few minutes that I did watch, here’s what I saw: Andy Samberg ripping off Billy Crystal’s Oscar bit; Ashley Tisdale winning “Breakout Female Performer of the Year” for High School Musical 3; Hayden Panettiere swearing a lot to show that she’s all grown up now; and Miley Cyrus winning for Best Song over A.R. Rahman’s “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire, and Bruce Springsteen’s song “The Wrestler” from The Wrestler. These few brief moments were so painful to watch, it was literally all my little heart could take, bless it so. I’ve recorded the ceremony, so I can watch the rest later with the ability to fast forward through anything so bad that it has me tempted to inflict self-harm as a valid alternative.

While the show may be unbearable to most, they do at least show a handful of new clips and trailers from some of the year’s biggest upcoming movies, and those, my friends, I am nothing but happy to share with you here! [...]

A Look Back At ‘Terminator 2 & 3’

The Movie God   |

I’m going to assume that 99.9% of us have seen at least The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, if not Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines as well. If you have not, and you’re planning on seeing Terminator Salvation this week, then Geeks of Doom is your place to make sure you at least have some kind of an idea of what the hell is going on.

Keep in mind — I can absolutely promise you that Salvation and any others ever made will not be anywhere near as good as the first two, and I strongly urge you to see them first; but if you just don’t have time and have to get you some Christian Bale action now, hopefully this will help out a little.

Before you continue here, be sure to check out our own BAADASSSSS!’s in-depth and thoughtful retrospect of 1984’s The Terminator. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

OK, now that you’ve read up on the first movie, here’s the promised quick recaps of both T2 and T3 so that you can complete the Zelda tri-force and be fully prepared to see Terminator Salvation! [...]

‘Lost’ Season 5 Finale Discussion: Let Your Theories Fly!

The Movie God   |

I’m going to hit this one off immediately: if you have not seen the Lost season 5 finale yet, stop reading right here! If you’ve not see Lost at all, stop reading NOW! This is, in many people’s (including myself), one of the greatest shows ever made; but it is also one that requires that you watch it from season 1, episode 1 straight through. The front end will be without worry, but once you click to the second half of this piece, nothing is sacred.

Before getting into it, let me just say that this was one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen. It had its areas of question that I wasn’t a big fan of, as I’m sure was the same for many people, but overall, it was intense and emotional and just blow-your-mind good. Lost’s typical recipe is to have a smaller twist before the title sequence, and then a big twist ending point. In this finale, it seemed like every freakin’ commercial break had a twist to preface it. [...]

Geek Discussion: ‘Battlestar Galactica’: The Series Finale

The Movie God   |

How much fun would the series finale of a show as good as Battlestar Galactica be without a little discussion? No fun at all, that’s how much. That would be my sign to share thoughts on the show and how they wrapped things up. This is also you the reader’s chance to praise or vent on what you loved and hated about the show.

If you have not yet seen any episodes of Battlestar Galactica, it is highly recommended that you not read any further! There will be pretty thorough coverage of this finale and the last thing we want is for things to be ruined for those who haven’t had the chance to enjoy this amazing show. I’m going to do my best not to explain every last detail, but important segments will obviously not be spoiler-free.

The biggest fear that fans of the show had, was that Ronald D. Moore and David Eick wouldn’t be able to close out the show cleanly. So many things had happened; so many things were going on; so many fragile areas. One wrong move could possibly ruin everything, and this, was a very delicate situation to approach. [...]

Golden Globe Awards Recap: From Slums To Glory!

The Movie God   |

Well, the Golden Globes were back after taking a year off because of the WGA strike, and they didn’t disappoint. Most people know the Globes aren’t that important and that the Hollywood Foreign Press doesn’t always vote for skill over bang, but they did a decent job tonight.

Instead of going through and listing off everything that won, here’s the movie categories, some of which may or may not have some Oscar implications in the near future.

In music: Best Song went to Bruce Springsteen for his song The Wrestler from Darren Aranofsky’s The Wrestler. It was great to see Springsteen take home the award and even more amusing to hear his line “This is probably the only time I’ll be up against Clint Eastwood for something. And to be honest, I kinda like it!” Also in music, Slumdog Millionaire continued its torrent awards season pace and began its Golden Globes evening with a win for Best Score by A.R. Rahman.

Best Screenplay was another strike for Slumdog Millionaire, with Simon Beaufoy beating out the rest of the pack to take home the prize [...]

Video: ‘Big Bang Theory’ The Lizard-Spock Expansion

Empress Eve   |

The CBS sitcom Big Bang Theory, now in its second second, has become one of my favorite television shows ever since the first episode aired in Fall of 2007. It’s not surprising, considering that the show revolves around four socially awkward young science geeks who are geniuses, yet also are filled to the brim with useless geek culture knowledge.

In each half-hour episode, it’s typically to hear the gang refer to popular scifi shows and movies, videogames, and tech, and hear and see how they spend their time together (like playing Klingon Boggle). On last Monday’s episode, there were four super-geek moments which, I swear, I could have written myself. You can watch the clip and the entire episode here below.

For those of you who need some incentive to watch it (I’m telling you, it’s hilarious, plus Big Bang Theory is the best comedy on television right now next to The Office), here’s some details…
