Want To Know Who’s In The Running To Become Captain America?

The Movie God   |

A list of names has been revealed to the masses today, and this list of names just so happens to be the gentlemen who are currently in the running for the highly-coveted role of Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America.

Usually we would just ignore stuff like this because c’mon now, this is a bunch of people who are being considered for one single role, which means all but one of them will not have anything to do with the project in the end. None-the-less, this is a gigantic film, and the last before the unheard of merging of multiple juggernaut Marvel Studios franchises in The Avengers, so we figured you might be interested in knowing just who might become your new Captain.

The names included are certainly very interesting and they vary from those you might expect to a couple you might not so much expect. Continue reading to find out who’s in the hunt! [...]

UPDATED! ‘Antichrist’ Director Lars Von Trier To Challenge Martin Scorsese & Robert De Niro To Remake ‘Taxi Driver’

The Movie God   |

Apparently Lars von Trier, director of the recent controversial film, Antichrist, is now the Jigsaw Killer of all film makers, setting challenges at the feet of his peers.

Many reports out of the Berlin Film Festival state that von Trier is challenging none other than Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to remake their 1976 classic, Taxi Driver. The news is so insanely preposterous that it wasn’t even worth a glance at first; but with more and more reports indicating that an announcement will come soon, we all can’t help but wonder: is this really true?

This is not the first time that von Trier has done this, either. Back in 2003, the director challenged Jørgen Leth to remake his own 1967 classic The Perfect Human, which is von Trier’s favorite film. To up the stakes, von Trier pushed him to actually remake it five different times, with five different obstacles presented for each one. The result was a sort of documentary called The Five Obstructions, which showcased the challenges. [...]

Rumors For Your Thought: Will We See The Riddler & Arkham Asylum In ‘The Dark Knight’ Sequel?

The Movie God   |

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, now that it has been confirmed that The Dark Knight scribes Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer are working on a script that will eventually turn into Batman 3, the rumors will begin flowing like the booze of a father mercilessly dragged to a Jonas Brothers concert by his daughters.

While rumors are usually B.S. created simply in hopes of stealing attention and hits to ones website location, sometime they come from an actual source, and these are the rumors that come with just a little chance of actually being true as night time blackness. In the case of this particular rumor, everything sounds like it would make sense and nothing is absurd and over-the-top. This information is actually a couple of weeks old, as well, but since its first running, some positive updates have come around and supported the claims, leading myself to think there could actually be some truth going on here. Words That Will Infuriate You: ‘Jaws’ To Be Remade In 3D?

The Movie God   |

We say it often here, and we’ll say it again: most rumors aren’t worth even reading, let alone covering. But when a rumor has any kind of a backing or a solid inside source, and when it involves something one simply can’t ignore, then we shall bring it to your eyes.

Cinema Blend has word from a source that they have at Universal Pictures that the studio is “strongly” considering the possibility of remaking Steven Spielberg’s classic 1975 Great White shark movie, Jaws, and bathing it in 3D for today’s audiences. The logic here is that everything is in 3D these days, and everything is being remade, so the smartest way for them to make a ton of money is to remake their classics with modern technologies. The same source even said that Universal was looking at actors like Tracy Morgan for the role of Hooper, once played by Richard Dreyfus.

If the very whisper of that paragraph doesn’t lead you break at least one thing in your general vicinity, than I would question your mental status as a movie fan. [...]

Matt Damon Says ‘Bourne’ Sequel Still Five Years Away; Prequel With New Director & Star Possible

The Movie God   |

It seems like the moment that it was announced that a fourth Jason Bourne movie would be made to follow The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum that was not based on a Robert Ludlum novel, everything started going wrong and falling out of place.

Through the many problems, the biggest was of course when director Paul Greengrass decided to leave the movie and move on to other things (Read: ‘Bourne’ Trilogy Director Paul Greengrass Walks Away From ‘Bourne 4′). Since Greengrass did not direct all three of the previous films, so long as the studio kept their hands on star Matt Damon, all could still be sunshine and rainbows, right?

While speaking to Empire Magazine at the UK premier of Invictus, Damon decided to make another Bourne movie sound a lot less likely than it once was. So much so that it now sounds like it could be five whole years before we see another one, and that a prequel film with a brand new director AND star could be made to fill the void. [...]

‘Ghostbusters 3′ To Use 3D; ‘Gremlins 3′ To Follow Suit?

The Movie God   |

The folks over at MarketSaw have been quite busy as of late. Not one but two of their tippy-top inside sources have chirped some information about Ghostbusters 3 and Gremlins 3 both wanting to join the “cool kids” of this 3D epidemic.

When it comes to Ghostbuster 3, we’ve heard over and over that it was indeed being made and that the whole cast would be returning. We still have zero solid proof of any of this, but because we’ve heard it so often, it has evolved to semi-fact. A source from none other than George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic has apparently whispered that the project is still moving full-steam ahead and that they’re also looking to shoot it in 3D. This is of course no shocking revelation; almost all movies these days are either developed around the technology or given the multi-dimensional makeover after-the-fact. If they are going to make another Ghostbusters, they might as well use this popular format to ensure a nice box office run. [...]

Rumor For Your Thoughts: Tim Burton To Take On ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Villain Maleficent?

The Movie God   |

Let me just preface this by saying that I’m not a fan of rumors. In fact, I’m not a big fan of anything that’s not officially confirmed, even if it’s a legit possibility. As I’ve said before, there’s so many rumors and maybes that come around, that it’s tough to ever tell what to believe and what will end up being false when it comes to future movies.

Now, even with as much as I hate rumors, let us just forget all of that for the moment. You see, sometimes there’s these rumors that are just too cool to ignore, even if they end up never happening; the rumors that get your mind’s eye running hard, imagining what something might look like if it were ever made. Today holds a rumor like this, and it involves the one and only Tim Burton, and a little Walt Disney classic called Sleeping Beauty.

Today’s too-much-fun-to-ignore rumor comes from Harry over at AICN, who was told by a friend of his that he has heard that Burton is developing another Disney-based project, much like his soon-coming Alice in Wonderland, from the classic Sleeping Beauty. [...]

Daniel Craig In Negotiations To Replace Robert Downey Jr. In ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

The Movie God   |

Back in September we discovered that Jon Favreau may be working with his Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. again soon when he became a candidate to direct a movie based on the Scott Mitchell Rosenberg graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens. Since then, Favreau has officially become the director, but unfortunately, Downey Jr. actually had to drop out of the project this past Monday.

Now comes word via a scoop by Collider that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace’s James Bond, Daniel Craig, is now in negotiations to take on the role of Zeke Jackson that Downey Jr. vacated.

Cowboys & Aliens isn’t the most recognizable title in the world of graphic novels, but its premise sounds to be highly entertaining. It takes place in Silver City, Arizona sometime in the 1800s where the Cowboys and Indians are fighting it out as we all know they did, but this particular location is about to have a bit of a twist. Bill Paxton Wants To See ‘Twister 2′ In 3D, But Do You?

The Movie God   |

Bill Paxton has done a lot of work with James Cameron (The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, Titanic), and because of this past, he’s very happy to see Cameron’s Avatar doing so well at the box office. The movie that had people nervous with its rumored record-breaking budget has made $380 million domestically and $757 million overseas, and was custom built for the new 3D technology that has swarmed theaters as of late. This three-dimensional revolution has caught the eye of Paxton, and it has his brain churning about the prospect of actually doing a sequel to his hit 1996 disaster film Twister using the format.

While doing an interview for his HBO show Big Love, Paxton was asked about his upcoming projects. Paxton went on to reveal his new found desire to revisit the world of storm chasing, and that he had already met with mega producer Kathleen Kennedy about the idea. He explained that he had recently gone on a trip to the Ozarks with friend and Twister colleague Scott Thomson, and that they followed the trail of one of the biggest tornadoes ever to touch down. ‘Zombieland’ Writers Also Taking On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel

The Movie God   |

The writing duo for popular Summer horror comedy Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are apparently the men of the moment. Just this past Tuesday, it was confirmed that the pair would be taking on the writing duties for the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool adaptation, which seems like a perfect match. Now comes word via an IESB scoop that Reese and Wernick will also be taking on the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

If this news pans out, the hiring is definitely not that match made in heaven for the writers like Deadpool is. G.I. Joe won a lot of people over who were expecting it to be unwatchable, but it also remained unwatchable to many others. In any scenario, it is a much cheesier and action-heavy project than Zombieland was or Deadpool is likely to be. This leads one to believe that it could be a “paycheck” job for these gentleman, which is fair and deserved. One thing is for sure, though: if they can add a little Zombieland good-ness to G.I. Joe, it might just take a big step up on the entertainment levels. [...]

Late Night Chaos: Jay Leno Jokes About Cancellation Rumor But Will NBC Move Him Back To Old Time Slot?

The Movie God   |

When Jay Leno officially ended his stint as the host of The Tonight Show and Conan O-Brien took over, it never really felt right. Since Leno’s new earlier show debuted and since Conan took over, ratings have been sadly mediocre, which has been growing more and more apparent as of late. With the lackluster numbers coming in, the whispers around town began growing into wide-spread rumors and unofficial reports that Leno’s show would be canceled. Amidst all of the drama that is likely flying around behind the scenes of this situation, Leno didn’t miss a beat and made sure to joke about the rumors on his show.

Though it is doubtful that Leno will be canceled, things just became a little bit more interesting: The New York Times is reporting that there may still be a plan in the works to stop the bleeding. The report claims that NBC will wait until after the upcoming Winter Olympics break, and that they would then move The Jay Leno Show back to the host’s old time slot of 11:35PM. [...]

New ‘Wizard Of Oz’ To Be Modernized Family Film; Todd McFarlane’s Dark Vision Dead?

The Movie God   |

It appears that the creepy world of The Wizard of Oz that everyone wanted to see from Spawn creator Todd McFarlane may not be coming our way any time soon. A scoop from Pajiba points to Warner Brothers passing by McFarlane and moving forward with a take that was once thought to be disliked by those involved.

Back in October was the last time that we heard from McFarlane about the progress of his film, and things seemed to be moving forward. He claimed that he was developing the film with A History of Violence scribe Josh Olson, who’s last script was too light “too Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” for his darker vision (Read: Todd McFarlane Talks The Status Of His Twisted ‘Wizard Of Oz’; Shares Story Details). The interesting thing about that situation, is that it sounded like McFarlane had sold Warner Brothers on his idea, and that he was perfectly okay with the fact that he would have to sacrifice some of his extreme ideas, saying “I just found it odd that they bought that cool, creepy pitch and now they’re taking a step back.” This quote is now even more interesting with the revelation that Warner Brothers is now leaning MORE toward Olson’s script, and running away from the darker idea all together. Harold Ramis Says ‘Ghostbusters 3′ To Film In 2010; Release In 2011

The Movie God   |

We’ve been hearing things like this for a while now, so it is a little difficult to embrace this quote with open arms, but nonetheless: Ghostbusters writer and original star Harold Ramis sat down and had a little chat with Heeb, where he discuss everything from Animal House to Groundhog Day to the status of a one Ghostbusters 3.

We’ve heard rumors of a new younger and prettier cast replacing the originals. We’ve heard Ramis and Dan Aykroyd make multiple claims that the movie would be coming soon and that almost the entire cast would be back, including Ramis, Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson (Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Rick Moranis are unknowns). And now comes word from Ramis that the film will in fact be shooting in he Summer of 2010 and will be released sometime in 2011.

The 3D Epidemic: When Does The Novelty Become The Standard & Is This What We Want?

The Movie God   |

Recently, The Wrap did a story on the new 3D technology and the vice-grip hold it has on the world of Hollywood. As we are all very much aware, it feels like every single movie that’s made these days is released in 3D, and in a lot of cases, we find ourselves asking the question “Why?” over and over again. In this new article, it is revealed that apparently Ridley Scott himself is “breathing down the necks” of executives at Universal to spend an extra $7-8 Million to make a 3D version of his upcoming period action/drama, Robin Hood. This is obviously one of the more confusing titles that we’ve heard associated with the 3D phenomena, and it lead us to begin wondering when this whole technology has just gone too far?

Many big names in the business have laid solid claim to 3D being the future of cinema, but judging by the collective feelings of movie fans, it is unclear whether this is what people want. There’s no doubt at all that when it comes to films like Avatar, which is built specifically for that technology, and fun movies like Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, 3D can be a really great time. What’s Become of Disney’s ‘King of the Elves’?

Empress Eve   |

Back in April 2008, Disney announced their schedule of titles through 2012 for new animated features and King of the Elves, which is based on a fantasy short story by Philip K. Dick, was included on that list. At that time, the only details was a brief synopsis of the film, which centers on an ordinary elderly man who reluctantly becomes the leader of a band of elves attempting to escape from an evil troll. But early last month, I noticed that the Disney Animation site had added King of the Elves to their “Projects” area, along with a very Lord of the Rings-like title treatment (see it here at top).

Now, /Film noticed that the CG-animated film, which is slated for a Christmas 2012 release in Disney Digital 3D, has been taken down from the upcoming Projects area (though the film-specific page is still on the site, you just can’t navigate to it anymore) [...]

Worst Idea Ever: Tobey Maguire As Bilbo Baggins In ‘The Hobbit’?

The Movie God   |

In case you missed it, the interwebs were abuzz yesterday with whispers of Spider-Man star and newly Golden Globe nominated Brothers actor Tobey Maguire possibly being in consideration for the highly-coveted role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. At first glance, this sounds like the worst rumor ever to be started, but in fact, it turned out to have some solid backing to it.

The possibilities began when Latino Review was informed that while promoting Brothers, Maguire was asked about who he would like to work with in the future, to which he replied “Guillermo del Toro. We may have something here in the near future.” Of course, this is way too good to just leave as it is, so LR dug a little deeper and discovered that Maguire was actually in the earliest of chit-chatting stages with producers of The Hobbit about the role. Another New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Rumor That No One Will Believe

The Movie God   |

We all know the routine: every once in a great while, a rumor surfaces that a brand new Star Wars movie could be in the works. The first thought is that George Lucas has finally decided that he wants to do the mythical last trilogy that would show us what happened after the original saga. After that, there’s thoughts of movies that just take place in a different part of that world, but that’s what the live-action television series we’ve heard about is supposed to be doing. So…just for the fun of it all, if they were making a brand new Star Wars movie, what could they be doing and what would YOU want them to do?

Now, I have no idea how this was even discovered, but Ain’t it Cool News went on an archaeological excavation and found a very brief, random bit encased within a blog written by Thomas Dolby, the man who co-wrote the Howard the Duck theme song. [...]

UPDATED! Will ‘Men In Black 3′ Add Josh Brolin To The Team?

The Movie God   |

Hero Complex has received word that Sony is considering Josh Brolin for a role in Men in Black III. No word yet on who the No Country For Old Men and Milk star would be playing in the movie, but whispers say that he could play a new recruit that one of MiB’s finest would have to train OR that he could be a younger Tommy Lee Jones character, though this is all speculation.

Men in Black III has not officially been greenlit yet, but they did hire Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder) to get the script written. All signs so far point to Will Smith being prepped and ready to return to the franchise if the ignition is fired up, but the return of Jones is still a big question mark.

As a big fan of these movies, this is exciting news. On the negative end of things: none of these possible roles sound all that great. If this movie is going to tear up the box office, it needs its original cast. [...]

No Shock Here: ‘Call Of Duty’ Movie Possibly On The Way

The Movie God   |

Kevin McKidd is one of those actor who is incredible in all that he does, but isn’t really known among those who haven’t seen his works. The Scottish actor is best known as the main character of HBO’s Rome, Lucius Vorenus, but he’s been making a decent mark on more mainstream television series like Grey’s Anatomy and the canceled Journeyman. Next year, he will play Poseidon in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, but right now, he’s appearing in a less-visual role: Captain “Soap” MacTavish in the video game mega-hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Recently, McKidd spoke to the NY Post about his current prospective projects, and Call of Duty came up. He confessed that he had no idea that the game would be so popular, and that now they’re apparently toying with the idea of a movie based on the title. This comes as no surprise to anyone considering how popular the games are, and considering the genre, it could absolutely work well in movie form. [...]

Is The World Ready For A ‘Three Men And A Baby’ Trliogy? Steve Guttenberg Thinks So…And More!

The Movie God   |

While on the set of his new movie, Steve Guttenberg spoke to WENN and dropped a mega-bomb on the unsuspecting world: Disney is developing a third movie in their Three Men and a Baby franchise called Three Men and a Bride. Wait, wait — it definitely gets better. Guttenberg also claims that, he Ted Danson, AND Tom Selleck are all set to reprise their roles. Oh, thank you…thank you, God.

The 1987 original movie was a hugely popular hit back in its day. It followed a trio of friends who are living the bachelor life in a sweet bachelor pad before a mysterious baby shows up at their door that supposedly belongs to one of them. Hilarity ensues when these completely unfitting fathers attempt to care for the baby and of its glorious baby habits. The film spawned a sequel entitled Three Men and a Little Lady in which the mother comes back and plans to move the kid to London. [...]
