Just recently we found out that the unexpected choice to play Superman’s mother/caretaker, Martha Kent, in director Zack Snyder‘s upcoming new take on the superhero would be the cougar-hot Diane Lane…but who would play his father, Jonathan Kent?

It’s being reported, after many whispers and rumors, that Dances With Wolves and Waterworld star Kevin Costner will be playing Mr. Kent in the movie, currently titled The Man of Steel.

Another actor has been added to the cast of 300 and Watchmen director Zack Snyder‘s upcoming comic book movie, currently known simply as Superman.

In a press release sent out Wednesday, it was announced that Diane Lane, who received an Academy Award nomination for her work in Unfaithful and has starred in movies like The Perfect Storm and Untraceable, had been cast in the movie.

Lane will be playing the role of Martha Kent, who acts as mother to the young boy who eventually becomes Clark Kent and of course, the Man of Steel himself, Superman.

Kevin Costner In Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’

Kevin CostnerKevin Costner is one of those actors that sort of lost his way. Early in his career he was in some great films and he even directed one of them, but then he faded into direct-to-DVD Hell.

Now Latino Review has it from a “well placed source” that Costner has been cast in Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot Superman, alongside Henry Cavill who will be playing the Man of Steel.

Rumors circulated for a while about who Costner would play. Some believed he might play a villain, but the role that made the most sense was that of Jonathan Kent, the man who found a baby in a crash-landed space ship and named him Clark.

Henry Cavill - The Tudors

With the official announcement earlier today that Zack Snyder and his team at Warner Brothers have chosen actor Henry Cavill as the lead in their Superman reboot (read Man Of Steel Picked For Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’ Reboot), it’s time we get acquainted with the actor that will be The Man of Steel.

According to Heat Vision, the 27-year-old actor beat out Watchmen’s Matthew Goode for the Superman role. He also reportedly won out against White Collar’s Matthew Bomer, Social Network’s Armie Hammer, True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, and The Rite’s Colin O’Donaghue.

Cavill doesn’t have a very lengthy resume, appearing in his first feature role in 2001 and the following year in The Count of Monte Cristo as Albert Mondego. His later films were Tristan + Isolde, the horror-thriller Blood Creek, and a small role in Stardust. He’s best known for his work in the HBO series The Tudors as Charles Brandon. It’s probably this role, along with his screen test, that garnered him the coveted role of Superman.

Man Of Steel Picked For Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’ Reboot

Hunter Camp   |

The Man of Steel has been found for the upcoming Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David Goyer-headed Superman reboot, and the Earth’s mightiest protector is none other than Henry Cavill (Stardust, The Tudors).

Though the British actor has been heavily rumored for the role for quite some time, the confirmation comes as a surprise to a lot of fans, mainly because of his physicality and his lack of American blood. I, for one, believe that if the actor is the best for the role, then that is all that matters.

Director Zack Snyder doesn’t share these fans’ fears, as he gave his thoughts in the official announcement from Warner Brothers.

Game Review: DC Universe Online

DC Universe Online
Sony Online Entertainment
PlayStation 3/PC
Price: $59.99 with a $14.99 monthly subscription
Released January 11th, 2011

DC Universe Online is not the first superhero Massively Multiplayer Online RPG to be released, but it is the first to have a major license behind it and it has been widely anticipated by its audience. Thanks to this game, players have the chance to fight alongside some of their favorite characters as well as interact with other fans. The game doesn’t stray too far from the formula perfected by World of Warcraft, which is a good thing, because the setting is really the selling point of the game. Never before have players been able to explore a living, breathing DC universe in this way. However, the game is not without its flaws, and those looking to check it out may want to wait a few weeks while the inevitable bugs are worked out of the system.

The story sets up the flavor of the DC universe right from the start. Lex Luthor has traveled from a future in which he has defeated Superman, but met defeat at the hands of Brainiac. He has traveled back in time and released those most precious of plot devices, nanobots, into the atmosphere in order to turn ordinary people (the player) into an army of superheroes that can defeat Braniac. It doesn’t take a masters degree in DC history to keep up, but a lot of the fun of the game is seeing your favorite DC heroes and villains brought to life and fighting beside them. It also helps to know some of the creators behind the books, as many of the locations are named after famous writers, artists, and editors.
