Warner Bros. Pictures will adapt Metal Men, based on the DC Comics robotic superhero team, for the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Comic book writer Geoff Johns (52) was brought on board to develop the story and will executive produce. Lauren Shuler Donner and Jack Leslie will produce the film with a script by Eric Champnella.
Metal Men was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru and first appeared in Showcase #37 in 1962. In the comic book, the six self-aware advanced robots were built by brilliant scientist Dr. William Magnus and had powers associated with their respective metals: gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum.
Originally added to the DC universe as filler material, the team turned out to be popular enough to earn them their own title. The Metal Men have most recently appeared in DC’s weekly comic book 52 as well as Superman/Batman.
