Ubisoft will adapt the upcoming performance-capture film from Robert Zemeckis for video game play.
Ubisoft will develop and publish a video game based on Beowulf, the Robert Zemeckis-directed fantasy-adventure feature film from Paramount Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment.
Ubisoft is partnering with the film studios and the creative teams at ImageMovers to extend the movie’s assets and storylines into an interactive video game universe.
The Beowulf movie, with a screenplay adapted by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary from the Old English poem, was created entirely with performance capture, the same technique Zemeckis used for his holiday film The Polar Express.
The movie features Ray Winstone as the title character, a warrior who slays the demon Grendel, then incurs the wrath of Grendel’s mother (played by Angelina Jolie). Anthony Hopkins, as the corrupt King Hrothgar, stars along with John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Crispin Glover, Allison Lohman, and Brendan Gleeson.
The Beowulf video game is expected to be released at the same time as the feature film on November 16, 2007.
