‘Watchmen’ Artist Dave Gibbons Visits the Movie Set – Part 1
  |  @   |

The Watchmen movie official blog has been updated with a post by Dave Gibbons, co-creator (along with Alan Moore) and artist of the Watchmen graphic novel, who visited the movie’s set this month.

The photo at right that accompanies the blog entry, which is listed as “Part 1 of 2,” shows Gibbons next to the costume for the Dollar Bill character, a member of The Minutemen, the precursor to the Watchmen superhero team. (Click photo for larger view.)

Of the visit to the set of the Zack Snyder big-screen adaptation, Gibbons starts off his entry with, “It’s perhaps the most surreal experience of my life.”

After explaining briefly a scene being filmed before him, Gibbons says:

And I’m standing amongst them. Nite Owl shakes my hand. The Comedian slaps me on the back. Silk Spectre smiles a dazzling greeting. I’m overwhelmed by the depth and detail of what I’m seeing.

But more than that. I’m overwhelmed by the commitment, the passion, the palpable desire to do this right.

I’m starting to feel a glow that eclipses even Dr. Manhattan’s…

While Moore has repeatedly stated that he will not be involved in any adaptations of his work, Gibbons previously did a Comic-Con exclusive poster for the Watchmen film.

Last month, photos from the movie’s backlot sets, along with set information, were revealed on the movie’s site, proving that the director and his crew are definitely getting the minute details of the graphic novel right.

The film hits theaters March 6, 2009, and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson.
