‘Star Trek XI’ Moved to May 2009
  |  @   |

Christmas is officially ruined.

Variety is reporting that Paramount is moving the release date of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek XI from December 25, 2008 to May 8, 2009 because of the film’s potential as a summer tentpole.

Apparently the move is part of a major reshuffling of Paramount and DreamWorks release dates. Plus, Star Trek XI has no competition in its new time slot as of now.

And I really don’t care what the reasoning is, I just know that with one lousy announcement, Paramount not only just put me on a foul head, but also ruined the beautiful Christmas I imagined I would have this year. The ONLY way I can forgive this is if Abrams is using the extra time to have William Shatner’s older James T. Kirk character added to the script (now that the Writer’s Strike is over, this can be done).

Other release changes include the Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder (from July 11, 2008 to Aug. 15, 2008 — the same day as Star Wars: The Clone Wars!!!); Eddie Murphy family film Nowhereland (from September 26, 2008, to June 12, 2009); Renee Zellweger horror-thriller Case 39 (from August 22, 2008 to April 10, 2009); and David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt (from November 26, 2008 to December 19, 2008).
