As many know, Ellen Page was slated for the new Sam Raimi film Drag Me to Hell, but had to drop out due to some “schedule conflict.” On the heels of the role that made her the super-talent that she’ll be from now on with Juno, some feel that Page is being very cautious of her next role due to fears of following up an Oscar-worthy performance with a flop.
Whatever the case here, Raimi has picked Page’s replacement in Alison Lohman, the lovely actress from movies such as Big Fish and Matchstick Men.
I think this may be a good move all around. I don’t see Ellen Page at a point where she should be doing anything but big-time jobs and this may be a more fitting movie for someone like Lohman.
Drag Me to Hell is apparently about someone being taken over by some supernatural cure. This sounds a lot like most of the stuff we’re seeing these days like The Eye, The Grudge, The Messengers, Fast and the Furious 34 — Oh, wait, not that last one. Sorry. You get my drift though! Hopefully with someone like Raimi on this one it will be a strong Horror offering; that is my fortune cookie dream. It’s slated for release sometime in 2009.

I expect great things from Sam. As for Page dropping out for fear of a flop, I hope she has more cool than that. I thought she was great in Juno. Lohman will probably do an excellent job, Page will have to watch this one from the seats, as I feel Raimi will make it well worth our wait!
