New ‘Lone Ranger’ Venture Announced
  |  @   |

After many failed re-boots of the Lone Ranger franchise, the big boys are stepping in to make things happen.

The familiar duo of Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films is the latest to attempt to bring a live-action big-screen version of The Lone Ranger back to our eyes. Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, The Mask of Zorro, Shrek, Aladdin) are in negotiations-but-likely-to write the script.

As stated above, this has been attempted multiple times before and has crashed hard each time; I have a feeling that things will be different this time, though. Will it be one of the best movies you’ve ever seen and win an Oscar in every category? As with most re-makes, re-boots, re-visions, and old TV show-to-movie adaptations — no, it probably won’t be that good. It will however be very successful, if you ask me.

It has the potential to be another Pirates-like franchise if they get the right star power in it. Plus, Jerry Bruckheimer has a touch that a lot of people have trouble ignoring and, as with this, when people get a peek at it, they will want to see it.

Bruckheimer is currently working on the popular video game adaptation, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which will likely be followed by — or even paralleled by — this project.

The man can be a magician.

  1. Rossio and Elliott are very solid, and very well-versed in this kind of light, matinee throwback material. Their script for GODZILLA should have been shot as-is, since it absolutely blows away the turd eventually turned in by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. If they bring half the fun of THE MASK OF ZORRO and ALADDIN to THE LONE RANGER, and if the right director is given the helm, this project should break the property’s curse.
