The First ‘Watchmen’ Video
  |  @   |

As many of you know, Zack Snyder is currently filming the adaptation of the popular graphic novel, Watchmen. If you didn’t know this, well… he is.

Many images have been released so far, but that’s about it… until now. Now SHH has the very first video journal to enjoy, and I must say, it is quite impressive! We get a really great look at how amazing the set is and how much has gone into it. They literally built a 1985 New York City parallel world, complete with streets, buildings, and cabs. When I saw the first picture, I thought it was just being filmed outside, but no, it is all inside and on a massive set.

I urge anyone who is dying to see this movie to check this clip out. Hell, I urge people who have no interest in Watchmen at all to check it out! I think you’ll be surprised.

This video is the first of 12 “making of” video blogs that will be released throughout year. A new one will be launched every month on the 6th on various sites.

Watchmen will be released on March 6, 2009.

  2. Mo, I’d say you’re out of step with most readers in your opinions of Watchmen. Perhaps it just isn’t for you?

Watching the clip, I think they’ve got the look down brilliantly. I’m still not expecting that much from the movie, though. The brilliance of Watchman seems to me to be tied up in how specifically it is a comic and how it does stuff that only comics can and also to the accumulation of all the material and the apparently irrelevant storylines. I’m not sure how they can capture even a fraction of this in the movie. In a way I hope that they don’t even try and throw out the idea of being faithful to source – instead making the best movie they can that goes over the same ideas and captures the spirit of the original. For example, I love the film version of Farenheit 451 – mainly because it is a different, but complementary, experience to reading the book (which I also love).
