Six FlagsJackson, NJ · May 15, 2008Six Flags Great Adventure today unveiled the highly anticipated “THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster.” Based on Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming movie THE DARK KNIGHT, the indoor, dark coaster offers guests a one-of-kind ride experience.

More than just a ride, THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster features the most world renowned DC Comics characters in an adventure that utilizes storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride thrill. As part of the experience, park guests will see, hear and feel the action of the movie the moment they enter the ride queue line, as they are transformed into citizens of Gotham City “” caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.

Guests board a Gotham City rail car and careen through six 180-degree hairpin turns, climb unseen hills, plunge into pitch darkness, dip into unforeseen danger and continue to be tormented by The Joker as they thrust onto the battlefield of good vs. evil. Will THE DARK KNIGHT save them in time?

“THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster offers guests a one-of-a-kind ride experience that combines the action and excitement of THE DARK KNIGHT movie with the thrill of a roller coaster,” said Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure’s Park President. “THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster offers a unique experience that will appeal to both family and teen audiences.”

The attraction also introduces new, customized footage featuring District Attorney Harvey Dent (as portrayed by Aaron Eckhart), produced and shot specifically for THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster. The ride also incorporates audio and visual elements from the film which will debut July 18, 2008, offering guests a sneak peak.

The $7.5 million coaster is located in the Movietown section at Six Flags Great Adventure adjacent to BATMAN The Ride. The height restriction is 42 inches to ride with an adult and 48 inches to ride alone. Guests can receive up-to-the-minute park news and purchase a 2008 season pass online at www.sixflags.com.

  1. This is a really interesting looking coaster I think. It’s interesting to see Six Flags go for a family-friendly approach to this ride, especially considering that they went all out and heavily themed it. I know that heavily themed Mack wild mouses’ remain a hit with the public for a long time.

  2. Shame that it’s a mouse couster, also why is the video so small?

  3. One of a kind? Not quite. Seems like the Spider-man ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure with a Batman makeover.

  4. ok, the video is nothing like the ride. the halls you have to stand in. then you get on a car, theres no bat man. the biggest drop is MAYBE 20 feet. you go really slow. AND ITS THE STUPIDEST RIDE EVER. i waited in line for 2 HOURS! and the only scary part was the video. then at the end when the ride stops because you think someones gna pop out.. but you’re just waiting to get off the ride. and honestly the best part of the whole ride was hanging with my friends in the line. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON ITT!!!

  5. Awful!!! Terrible disappointment. I’ve been on better rides at a church carnival. It’s a ride inside what amounts to a big warehouse, which limits any size, big drops or other things that make a coaster fun. The ‘effects’ are lame at best, you pass by a few of little ‘displays’ that don’t really do anything. It would be impressive in a 1950’s park, maybe. Compared to any of the other rides at Great Adventure, this one is a joke. I was there on a rainy day, and was pissed I waited in line for 20 mins for this one! After riding it, I wouldn’t wait 2 minutes to ride again. STAY AWAY! Go ride Batman the ride, or El Toro, much more fun.

  6. worst ride in the park no lie… it makes skull mountain and the runaway train seem thrilling. I want my hour in lin e back. it wasnt that dark, very little theming once in the seat and no drops… yuck.

  7. Dont waste your time, waited about a hour and a half and was extremely diasspointed, not fun, not thrilling, not the least bit scary, and not really dark. Dont waste your time get on the batman a few times instead, much more of a thrill.

  8. I went on the ride one day and I waited almost 3 hours! The video kinda got me scared and so did the writing on the walls along with the cars. But once i got in there i was bored to death. you should have seen my picture. BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME!!!!!

  9. We waited in line for about an hour and a half, thought everything was really corny from the video to the entrance after the video. The coolest thing was the way they made your face into Jokers when you looked into the screen. When we got on the ride it was as if I was waiting for something to happen. NOPE just a bunch of turns one stupid drop. I didn’t even notice anything around because the turns were so sharp you really can’t notice anything effects they added. Was short stupid ride, my 3 year old nephew could have went on it and not got scared. Should have been in the kiddy park. Atleast I know better next time not to waste my time.

  10. I agree. This ride is a horrible disappointment. I can’t believe Six Flags wasted the money to build so many of them. It is definitely the worst and most lame ride I’ve been on in my life.

  11. Awesome idea, poor execution. This ride was so promising, but ultimately a major let down. I enjoyed the setting of the ride a great deal (they do an amazing job creating the scene); however, the ride reminded me of a boardwalk fun house. It’s too bad…

  12. After a nearly 2 hour wait, this ride was absolutely awful. Our neighborhood carnival has better coasters. Even my 7 year old said that it “sucked” and for once, I didn’t correct his language.

  13. We went there on July 4th weekend and really loved the dark knight. But my favorite is Kingda Ka.

  14. Hi I was at the Great Adventures Park in New Jersey , this wednesday August 20th with 4 other friends and family members from out of the country. We were on the new Dark Night line from 8:20 PM to 10PM when there were 7 people to our time and the ride broke, 15 minutes later they informed us they couldn’t fix it. I you don’t earn enough to afford paying for the flash ticket but I think that I should be able to ride more than 3 rides in 10 hours in a Park that the tickets cost, was very mad. Isn’t this a new ride????

  15. this ride is a piece os sh** one we went to six flags last sunday and it was like an 1 hour wait right. so we went on. right after we got off it started to rain! and me and my friends just relized we just wasted our time waiting to go on the dark knight, and we couldnt go on el toro and kingda ka! we all wasted our time going on this piece off crap. and to make it clear my brother went on and hes 4 years old but hes tall so he went on. when we got off he said “gabby i didnt like it, it was a dumb ride”. and me and my friends were like yes yes yes it was. never should have taken out the chiller for this. or might as well have putten a way better ride like well i dont know but still

    Comment by gabby — August 26, 2008 @ 1:40 pm

  17. This was the worst ride me and my friends had ever been on, a complete waste of 7.5 million dollars if u ask anyone!! not even worth the 10 minute wait in line considering the original wait is about 2 fucking hours for this piece of shit!! fuck the dark knight coaster!

    Comment by ac1d chr15t — October 4, 2008 @ 2:33 pm

  18. This was the most lame ride I have ever experienced. We were there on a very slow day in early spring so we didn’t wait in line very long. I pity the people that stood in line during summer and busy times. This is pathetic for 6 Flags standards.

  19. I have been on eight entirely different wild mouse designs, from the one in Hershey PA, Dorney, PA, the two different models at Seaside Heights and Seaside Park, the spinning type at Atlantic City, the one at Kings Dominion, the one in Wildwood, NJ, and more, and “The Dark Knight” has no competition for being the absolute worst piece of crap. For being of this design, you are barely even whipped around the corners. Hello, that’s the point!
The rest of the ride isn’t even that great, with a waste of time stretch around again before actually getting to a drop. I went on it once last year, and the only reason I went on this year was because the ones in the Seaside Piers were missing. By all means, they are bigger, crazier, and definitely smoother.
If Six Flags wanted to make one of these, why not make it higher, faster, and more wild? They made a pathetic excuse of a ride, with a terrible starting video.
