‘Transformers 2’ Subtitle + News + Bethlehem Photos
  |

Over the past week there has been a veritable bounty of news pertaining to Transformers 2, Michael Bay‘s sequel to the 2007 film.

There have been a mass of photos coming out of Bethlehem Steel, where film crews were shooting this week, and there seem to be more and more each day, so we’ve decided to just point you the whole collection over at TFW2005 (via our friends at /Film). The latest batch of photos show a large explosion accompanied by the traditional army helicopters, and what appears to be a retreating battle down a road.

But more than the photos is the news from Hasbro that Transformers 2 has an official subtitle now — Revenge of the Fallen. The name obviously alludes to a plot point from the first film, but which plot point? Some are suggesting it refers to Megatron, who was destroyed in the first film. But it could also have to do with Jazz, who was also somewhat unceremoniously destroyed, or even Starscream, who didn’t so much “˜fall’ rather than jet off into space as seen in the end credits. Hasbro also said to “expect a key character from the first movie to make a dramatic comeback and attempt to settle a score.”

Along with returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson, Rain Willson has also joined the cast of Transformers 2, along with British actor Matthew Mardsen, who MTV announced this week had snagged a role of “Graham,” a character who is part of the British Special Forces.

Wednesday saw Michael Bay announce that Transformers 2 wouldn’t just be a set up for a third film as well. Bay described such a tactic — as seen in Back to the Future and The Matrix — as “lame” and insisted that Transformers 2 would be a movie that would stand on its own. “First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let’s just say [this] is not a lame sequel,” he said in an interview with MTV.

Either way, Transformers 2 is definitely going to be a film to keep your eye on. It is expected to hit cinemas in Australia on the 25th of June, 2009, and in the UK and USA on the 26th.
