WB Sends a Note to ‘Harry Potter’ Fans

Harry Potter logoIn light of the fact that Warner Bros. has pushed the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince to July next year, Harry Potter fans have been less than happy.

So it comes as a surprise that Alan Horn, the president and Chief Operating Officer of Warner Bros., has written a note to all the distressed Harry Potter fans to try and explain the decision for the movie.

See Horn’s full statement here below.

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to Summer 2009.

Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability.

The decision to move Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support.

If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between Half-Blood Prince and the much-anticipated first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which opens in November 2010.

So although we have to wait a little longer for Half-Blood Prince, the wait from that film until Deathly Hallows will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Alan Horn
President, Chief Operating Officer
Warner Bros.

  1. Harry Potter fan’s don’t need to be apologized to. They need to frickin volunteer at a homeless shelter or something, stop getting angry about one movie. Good move on the president’s part, but the fans should appreciate it if more polish goes on the movie. I’m going to go and hop on my bigger pedestal now. Later.

  2. Lets hope Warner doesn’t make the same mistake Disney made when it opted to not release the 2nd ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ movie on its oroginal release date (during the x-mas season). Curiously, the Narnia sequel also had “Prince” in the title.

Disney moved Prince Caspain’s release from Christmas to May 2008, where it simply could not compete with other big releases. And it pretty much bombed.

  3. Its really a shame when they delay stuff like this, and I’m not even a Harry Potter fan. Cause really that was one of the bigger movies to look forward to during the Fall/Winter season this year.

  4. Only the really strange people who carry the books everywhere they go are angry. LOL! Lets hope the movie is somewhat close to the book. I love the book series but the movies leave too many key points out. -_-
