When Marvel announced its plans for future movies, it wasn’t a big surprise to see Thor on the list. One of the original Avengers obviously made Thor a ripe choice for cinematic adaptation, so with writers and producers on board, all the movie needs now is a director.
Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) had previously been attached to direct the flick, but was off the project after his holding deal expired this past December. But news out of IESB is suggesting that Eagle Eye helmer DJ Caruso might be up for the directorship.
IESB brought up the now-stereotypical question posed to directors these days, as to whether they would like to direct a superhero movie. Apparently Caruso was a fan of Thor when he was younger, and despite fears about which Thor story to tell, Caruso said he could see himself getting into directing the movie.
IESB: Have there been any talks with Marvel?
DJ Caruso: I have had some talks with Marvel about it but I have not seen a screenplay. It could be something that I am interested in.
I can’t say for certain whether I’m a fan of this idea or not, having not really seen anything that Caruso has done, like Disturbia and various episodes of The Shield and Smallville. (Caruso is also working on a big-screen film adaptation of Y The Last Man.) But I know the name, and not with any stigma attached, so it can’t be too bad. Right?
Back in May, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios,
said that a new director for Thor would be chosen late summer (which would be about now) and that screenwriter Mark Protosevich was polishing up the script. Of the story, Feige also said that “it’s very much a Marvel superhero story but against the backdrop of nothing you’ve seen before,, describing the film as a The Lord of the Rings-like period fantasy piece.
Thor is scheduled for theatrical release on June 4, 2010.
if they push the whole nordic viking type deal thats normally in the thor comics this could be bad…..
